Keane: An Important Win
Keane: An Important Win
Wednesday, 10th Feb 2010 02:05

Boss Roy Keane felt Tuesday night’s win at QPR was an important one as the Blues move into a period of four away games on the trot.

Keane said: “It was an important night for us. Obviously we should have done better in terms of killing the game off but I have to be pleased, in the end we got the win.

"We were at it in the first half. We had two or three other chances and at 2-0 we were actually a bit disappointed.

"We knew QPR would come out in the second half and they caused us problems, but we haven't had that many victories. So it's not a night to be critical because we got the result.

"It was a very important three points, especially with the run of away games we have coming up.

"The full-backs did well, Jaime Peters and Jack. We felt they could get at QPR and there were a lot of positives to take from the 90 minutes.

"Murph got another goal, and could have had another one. Pablo worked well up front and, although we had some anxious moments at the end, I can't be critical of my players because it was a big win for us."

QPR manager Mick Harford blasted his side’s first half display: "For a professional club, that first half performance was not acceptable.

"It was totally inept, lacking everything. Lacking effort, lacking commitment. Ipswich should have been out of sight, they had chance after chance and carved us open.

"We played better in the second half but that doesn't really bother me at the moment. At half-time I told them the fans were right to boo.

“I asked them if everyone was up for the fight, a rallying call for more effort and commitment. The players now know they are in a relegation fight."

bwnnyblue- On paper it may look like we only just missed out but in reality we were out of the hunt for a play-off spot well before the end of the season.

BennyBlue, what can I say except that stop living in the past. Bottom line is that we are where we are and need to grind out results and push on. How on earth is it going to help our situation? We can't change what has happened.

You infuriate me so much.

Do you have any friends? Coz with your attitude I bet your a smug git that thinks he has loads of pals but really is a sad lonely man that knocks one out very day to the Town years gone by and makes microwave meals for one. Wake up and grow up. This is a serious time of the season adn moaners like you can just do one.

Much needed win, with no game saturday. Everyone from doncaster down now will be feeling the pressure and probably getting stress from their home crowds as the tension builds. Hopefully we will cope with that better than them

In short last night was a good result. Good First half performance, shakey second half.

Murphy played very well but very impressed with Macauley and Delaney, never really saw them make any mistakes.

It is going to be a dogfight, but I'm confident. There are so many teams down there and whilst it is this tight there is more oppurtunity for teams to start slipping up. Granted that's us included but I'd rather have 12 teams engulfed in a relegation battle than just 4.

Brockleyblueboy, I have got to agree with PaulMariner in that if anybody is a sad individual it is you. To post insults about Bennyblue just because he doesn't tow your 'everything is rosey' view is very sad. The fact is everybody has their own opinion over Keane and players, which you may or may not agree with but this is a forum where people post their opinions and do not have to all agree with you.

I think Keane has had a very poor first season so far and admits as much himself. The fact that Town are lingering just above the relegation zone is reason enough to be unhappy. I would agree a little more with those who seem to slate anybody who posts anything negative if Town were at the top of the table, but the fact is we are not.

There are signs that the Town are starting to look a useful side, but they weren't a bad side the last few years just never looked like one that was going to get promoted. I think with the amount of money spent by Keane that we all were expecting a better position in the table, in fact if we had managed to hold out a little longer in numerous games and Norris hadn't got injured early in the season, we would be at least nearer the top than bottom.

I can't see the Town being relegated but think they will struggle to get much above mid table this season. The players should take responsibility for alot of the errors this year along with Keane who failed to select a consistent team for much of the season. Hopefully he now knows who his key players are and where they play best. Hopefully.

ohhh there's another Mariner on here....trying to steal my thunder..

why did Colback shave his hair??
Because he's a freakin ginge of course!
even though he knew it woud be freezin out there, he decided to take a cold head and possible illness over more future ridicule...

Class performance from the Shaven headed wonder...
Do get worried about Arran Sweater man...awaiting Smurf 2 to get up to full fitness and take his place...

Mac& Delaney great again...Peters alot better than when i saw him against west brom and some great headers from the little guy second half...
Colback, Norris & Leadbitter were all strong and Smurf had a pretty good game..

Pabwo showed some great touches and a couple of great through balls..

All round looked a real threat until we let one in and got nervous..

We're on the right track...i quite liked Colback and Garvan in the same team... hard to choose between them. still play Rosenior at right back every game though

Did you read my post? I don't think you did. Did I say everything is reosey? No I didn't. What I said was that the past is the past, what is the point of festering on what could have been a good season.

What I said was that we find the positon that we are in (not a great one) and we have to get on and grind out results. Everyone is welocme to thier opinion and so I am. I know things are bad but I am sick to the back teeth that "people" like bennyblue still have to moan and whinge. We bloody won last night, but that isn't good enough is it. No instead it is silly comments. Exscuse me for being a realist and trying to be positive. Isn't that what fundamentaly every supporter has when the results are not going their way, FAITH. If in the bad times all you do is slag off the club, the manager, the players, what fun is that?

So excuse me for trying to be psoitive in the face of such dickheads like bennytheblue.

Whoever agrees with him, good luck you sad little people.

There are people on here moaning about the substitutions - fair enough making them when there is a set piece is a school boy error - but from what I've seen there was no reason for Roy to think that they would weaken the side.

Peters was having trouble with Taarabt, so he brought on our recognised full back (who knows why he didn't start - but it worked! QPR had to change their players as they were getting nowhere).

Took out the replacement left midfielder (who some have admitted on here isn't the quickest) and pushed a pacier left midfielder (peters) to try and stretch QPR, win back the initiative and provide width and depth for balls into the box for the predatory skills of Healy (not match fit but should score a few once he's going) who had replaced Counago who became less effective once QPR got physical as he doesn't like it up 'im - so to speak.

The changes sound like perfectly reasonable solutions to the problems the team was facing, so to say the subs show Keane to be a poor manager is rubbish.

Got to admit I got nervous once I saw we had conceded and switched sky sports off straight away - I've switched the bloodything on about 5 times this season to see the opposition score (twice in the case of Sheff Utd).

Hoping to go to the game against Posh next week, so want a fully fit squad and hopefully we'll put them to the sword.

The next 4 games, although 3 of them are away, are all very, very winnable!

Perhaps bennytheblue and alot of others are sick to the back teeth with you too? It is possible to state your opinion without insulting others and swearing. I would assume that most Ipswich fans on here (except the odd Narrwich fan) support ITFC through thick and thin. It doesn't mean that they can not discuss on a forum what they feel and their opinion of the Manager.

Being positive is great. Slagging off fellow supporters for not agreeing with you is not.

we have no excuses but to win the next four games. hopefully QPR was the start of run and we will be right up that table. Sounded much more of a solid performance last night, well done lads - Keane is building a formidable team that is hard to beatm which is good to see. Lets just try to be more intelligent in injury time.

Doctor Albran, thank you for posting a sensible, unbiased train of thought, a joy to read.

Surely the 3 points is all that matters, if you cant be happy with that, i can guarantee you it gets no better, i dont think even Manyoo gets 4 points for a win!

Surco72 added 14:35 - Feb 10
Dr Albran that is a good summary for the substitutions last night ,but for some of us not correct for when we switched back to the Walters/Peters ,Leadbitter,Norris,Colback midfield that we have employed unsuccessfully against Preston,West Brom ,Boro we were again overun in the centre for whatever reason and were left holding on to a game we dominated with better balance in the first half . IMO

which Bent?? He's injured...had to go off after 10 mins last night...i threw a Randy Pelzer from Gremlins' Bathroom Buddy at him & scored a direct hit....he hobbled off to the dressing room. A perfect gift for the travelling salesman
