Wright Undergoes Scan
Wright Undergoes Scan
Thursday, 25th Feb 2010 09:02

Full-back David Wright underwent a scan yesterday on an ankle injury which has been hampering in recent weeks.

The 29-year-old has started Town’s last two matches at right-back in place of the ill Liam Rosenior, having been at left-back for much of the season.

Meanwhile, striker David Healy says he was perhaps not doing himself justice in training while with Sunderland earlier this season: “When I was training with Sunderland this season I knew deep down that I wasn't going to play.

“It's easy to let your standards drop in those circumstances although I shouldn't have let it happen. I let myself down a little bit, but I'd been out in the cold for so long.”

The Northern Irishman says he expects the Blues to move further away from the relegation zone in the weeks to come: “You only have to look at the manager and players to see what Ipswich is capable of. I'm convinced we will not be in trouble by the end of the season.”

I will admit I was surprised when he wasn't playing but that was because I'd been thinking this injury had cleared up. Makes a lot more sense now why he's been in and out of the squad.

Ok Blueknight i will take the bait

Season so far for David Wright and Ipswich

Cov lost 2-1 ,Bench
Leic drew 0-0 , Played
Palace lost 3-1 ,Bench
Wba lost 2-0, Played

He was then dropped from squad but not injured asplaying for reserves in which time we conceeded 12 goals in 5 games
Pres drew 1-1,Boro lost 3-1,Forest drew 1-1,Donc drew 1-1,New lost 4-0
Sheff utd drew 3-3 ,Bench
Barnsley lost 2-1,Bench
he then came back into side and he played in 10 games in which we conceeded 5 goals including 5 clean sheets and team of the week performance against Derby and a goal
Palace lost 3-1,Played
Qpr won 3-0 ,injured
Blackpool cup won 2-1 ,played
Leicester drew 1-1,bench
Cov won 3-2 ,bench
Saints lost 2-1 bench
Brom drew 1-1,played
Preston lost 2-0 ,bench
Boro drew 1-1 ,played
Qpr injured
Peterboro lost 3-1 ,bench
Sheff Weds won 1-0 ,Played
Scun drew 1-1 played

i think anyone can see that when Wright has not been playing we concede a number of goals , and if he is on the bench it must mean he is fit enough to play or he would not be on there so that counts as being dropped ,he has been in and out for most of the season apart from two spells one where he was dropped and we were very poor and one spell he played consistently and we conceeded very few .I think he adds stability in my humble opinion

That is a nice set of stats and I am not saying you are wrong but Wrighty playing is not the only factor.

The way RK tinkers with the team week in and week out has a lot to do with results. The unbeaten run we went on also co-incided with Delaney and McCauley finally finding a partnership in the centre of defense, plus a very good keeper in Begovic, which L-B did well to cover for when he left.

So to use those stats to say that Town only perform well when Wrighty is in the team is somewhat misleading.

I wasnt trying to say we only perform well when Wright is playing ,i was answering Blueknights post from before the Sheff Weds game and again today that Wright has not been dropped by Keane ,when clearly like others in the team he has been in and out a lot due to changes and team selection rather than injuries .
And i agree you have to take a lot of factors into account for individual games ,but if i was Wright i would be maybe feeling a little hard done by as his goals conceeed in games he has played and results we have achieved must be quite high compared to when he has not played ?
As for Mac and Delaney ,they have been a revelation but were playing in the Coventry,Preston,Saints,Peterboro games of recent and we let in 9 goals. In that time we played against Blackpool,Brom,Boro,Sheff Weds arguably better sides with Wright and only let in 3 , perhaps he is just a lucky mascot this season !!

David Wright is a good player. However Rosenior has also done nothing wrong at right back. Wrights performances at left back have been okay - yet I think he is better on the right.

Agree jas, ideally a left back should be a natural left footer which David isn't and that makes us a bit limited on the attacking side too because he often has to check his run and get the ball on to his right foot. By that time we've lost a bit of impetus.
