McAuley a Doubt for Northern Ireland
McAuley a Doubt for Northern Ireland
Saturday, 27th Feb 2010 19:23

Central defender Gareth McAuley could be forced to miss Northern Ireland’s friendly in Albania on Wednesday due to a groin injury which was hampering him during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Bristol City. The former skipper thought that Robins keeper Dean Gerken got a touch on Connor Wickham’s late long throw which ended up in the net but was ruled out by referee Nigel Miller.

McAuley told the club site: "The groin is quite sore. It's been niggling away at me and I could feel it through the game. I'll have to speak to the physio and [Northern Ireland manager] Nigel Worthington and see what they say." The 30-year-old says he didn’t touch Wickham’s long throw but felt Gerken may have done: "I didn't touch the ball. I thought the keeper got a nick on it but I had my back to the play."

If he is injured he should be rested and not risk a more serious injury. Northern Ireland's games is meaningless and GM will be vital to our run in. It is essential that he stays as fit as possible for the relegation fight.

julesbda, hes not here anymore because he didnt score enough goals, we've got 2 strikers in on loan that are better than jon stead, also, if you read any report on the game yesterday they all say that we would have got the 3 points if it wasnt for their keeper

story of our life this season....looks like we may get to safety now the gap is starting to improve between us and the bottom 3. but we are not closing gap on 6 th place still remains 11-12 points which is the closest we have got all season.we should be winning these type games a well placed shot cannot be saved no matter how good the keeper is i know cause i am a keeper and some that go in are just to good.....no matter how much i fool myself that i've got it covered

i'm sure the closest we have been to 6th was the first day of the season, when we were 0 pts off it?

Good luck Gareth if you play, though we'd rather you didn't and are match fit to play for us! Is Healy in the squad?

we were never 0pts cause we had to play 90 minutes of football i suppose you could say we were3 p0intsclose to it just after the first loss and maybe 6 points after the second and 9 after game 3 and then possibly 12 after game 4 .. most people would have said at that point whereis the nearest cliff i want jump off while holding roy firmly in a bearhug
