Healy Reported to Want to Stay With Town
Healy Reported to Want to Stay With Town
Sunday, 28th Feb 2010 10:12

Loan striker David Healy has already decided he wants to quit Sunderland and join the Blues permanently in the summer, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

It would be little surprise if Healy does want to make his switch permanent, having said he has been enjoying his time here in his column in the Belfast Telegraph.

Healy, whose Sunderland contract is up in the summer of 2011, scored his first Town goal in the 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe last Tuesday.

The striker will be away with the Northern Ireland squad this week for their friendly in Albania.

All this negative thoughts about getting relegated, yeah ok make no mistake, we're in the worst league position for years but I don't think we'll go down. Healy will be a good signing and I'm sure given a good run he'll get goals, but also make them, he's an intelligent player. Get behind the team and next year will be a whole load different!!!
COYB!!!!

Agree buyblue77, however being positive on here will only bring you grief from those of us "supporters" who are not happy unless they are miserable!

A loan player states he likes our club, and would like to stay, cue all the posts about us going down WTF!
'bout time people got a grip IMO.

I think us fans should be mindful of relegation but be patient and keep are heads down for now and ride out the storm until next season, The ship will have steadied on league position and squad selection front and ITFC can go into next season that 1 year wiser.

Being in the doldrums of a dissapointing season can be frustrating!

So, Healey wants to stay at Town? Well yeah, who wouldn't?
The choice:
Sit warming the bench in the frozen northern wasteland of Sunderland or move to the pleasant countryside and get a game and hang out with a whole community of Irish ex-pats.
It's not rocket-science is it???????

Ps Wherever he goes IMHO he'll get a few goals and probably set up a few more but I am really not convinced that he's the dynamic, on-the-way-up-not-down striker we so DESPERATELY need here...

Bluedanw: are you sure you were watching the game properly? Healy did not look match fit and did not have that sharpness that a striker on form should have. So don't go ranting and raveing at stowtractor about the game when it sounds like you wernt watching the bloody game !!!

Stowtractorboy, how can you even justify saying Healy has a poor goalscoring record at club level??? Man Utd, he had the small matter of being stuck behind Yorke and Cole in their prime and getting just one sub appearance (against Town, and I remember him hitting the post that day too). Preston, did very well for them consistently for 4 seasons. Leeds (which you coincidentally missed out), he was a fans favourite and scored a lot of goals for many years. Maybe Fulham and Sunderland were a step too far for him but to doubt his ability to score goals at Championship level is just ridiculous. Give him a chance!

1999—2001 Manchester United 1 (0)
2000 → Port Vale (loan) 16 (3)
2000—2001 → Preston North End (loan) 2 (1)
2001—2004 Preston North End 136 (43)
2003 → Norwich City (loan) 5 (1)
2003 → Norwich City (loan) 8 (1)
2004—2007 Leeds United 111 (29)
2007—2008 Fulham 30 (4)
2008— Sunderland 13 (1)
2010— → Ipswich Town (loan) 5 (1)

1998—1999 Northern Ireland U21 8 (4)
1999 Northern Ireland B 1 (0)
2000— Northern Ireland 78 (35)

Sort of backs up what radiogaga said. If he can recover his form for Leeds and Preston, and especially international form, then he could be a great player for us.
