Keane: It's Like Groundhog Day
Keane: It's Like Groundhog Day
Saturday, 6th Mar 2010 19:01

Boss Roy Keane described Town’s failure to take their chances at Blackpool as being "like Groundhog Day". The Blues had opportunities galore to grab an equaliser at Bloomfield Road but left Lancashire having been defeated 1-0.

Keane said: "We had a number of chances in the game but it's getting like Groundhog Day.

"If you don't take your chances, you get nothing. If you don't hit the target, you don't get much.

"I was disappointed with both ends in the second half. We gave a bad goal away and to miss the chances we had was criminal."

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was pleased with his side on a pitch he described as being like an “allotment”.

He said: "In the first half we were a little bit sloppy in one or two situations where perhaps we made the wrong choice. Those chances can be vital on a pitch that doesn't help either team at the moment.

"Roy knows how to play against us and he's beaten us twice already this season, so I threw a bit of a curve ball at them by not picking Ben Burgess and going for a bit more movement.

"I call their two central defenders the twin towers as you have to keep the ball away from them by getting out wide."

You have to feel sorry for Roy after all life is about two choices:- you buy and loan in players (good or bad) you sell or loan out players (good or Bad) you use this or that tactic you use this or that substitution and so on, unfortunately Roy has made the wrong choice but sooner or lately he will start getting it right!

Blackpool third best home record in the division, Ipswich fourth worst away record in the division why does anyone think we would win? Everyone is slagging the team of for being rubbish but assuming we are going to beat play of contenders with a home records just behind Newcastle and Forest. Grip needs getting. Any result would have been good.

well our team is obviously worst then last year and if it isnt then its obviously the manager, i know blackpool are solid at home but the chances we missed is the frustrating thing, murphey is missing sitters now and he is not solving the problem, roy keane is the only clueless manager i know who will loan out his top goalscorer

This crap about loaning out your topscorer is rubbish. For a start he was top scorer with just 6 goals - hardly prolific. Secondly I did not see anywhere near this level of support for Stead when he was at the club and thirdly we replaced him with a Premiership player who scored 3 goals in his first 3 games !!

We are certainly managing to break a few ITFC records this year. Unfortunately they are all bad. I guess having played Blackpool twice and not lost and the team supposedly improving that we expected to get at least a point.
A season of excuses, we can hardly say we have improved since Keane has arrived if the league position and points is anything to go by!
I don't agree with changing Managers too frequently but nobody is saying that the Scum changed their Manager to soon after a couple of games and look where they are now. Don't bet against Warnock soon having QPR towards the mid table safe position.
The fact is Keane (and his players) have massively under performed and there is a real risk of relegation. IMO we will scrape through and stay up but I wouldn't want to bet alot of money on it. This would still make the season pathetic and even though I will renew what ever division we are in, alot of fans will not.
When is the best time to change a Manager? Is it once you can't mathematically stay up or at the end of the season if you have gone down? We haven't been able to string together a run of wins all season, is it very likely that we suddenly will for the run of home games coming up?
M E got rid of Magilton when mathematically we couldn't reach the playoffs, will he wait until mathematically we can't stay up with RK? If we do stay up then and RK keeps his job, I for one will be alot less excited about the following season under Keane than I was this season! Would like to see Burley back but feel that ME will give him longer (unfortunately).

I must say regarding comments on Stead being loaned out I felt it was a strange decision unless he had to get someone out in order to bring his own players in. Felt inspired when Murphy came in and got a few in his first matches but none since. I don't feel sacking Keane right now is the answer who would come in anyway? Not Burley please as some have saId, I think Keane could well get it right next season and if it turns out to be more of the same then we will have to look at it. We're not a sacking club and although we're in the worst position we've found ourselves in for years and definitely in my life time, just look at what haapens to some of these clubs who sack their managers every five minutes!

So Keane is sacked; then what?

The new manager will turn things round in an instant? Goals will suddenly start pouring in? And what about all the players with Keane (Leadbitter, Edwards etc. etc.)? Will morale rocket after a Keane sacking? Somehow I think not.

Yes we're on a knife edge right now, but as mentioned already sacking on a whim is not the way (in the past at least) this club has been run. We're Ipswich, not QPR.

If Keane is sacked we can kiss the Championship goodbye. It's time to get real.

To quote mr keane "I will get Ipswich promoted" yes you might, from league one. At best. Let's cut our losses, the joke is over. Let's get a real manager and push up the table. End of.

From games started this season Stead has a better scoring record than Murphy and Healy put together , 1 every 2 games for us and 2 in 3 for Coventry . But people on here will defend Keanes decisions for whatever he does. He also has a miles better record than Walters who started up front for us !!!!!
Hopefully at least Garvan may get a sniff in the next two games as our only decent run this year was when Garvan,Wright and Stead were playing but you can only say it so many times

The job of a manager is to motivate his teams and send them out prepared for each game, have any of you seen that inspiration this season, No, because Keane is a poor communicator, a bully with a temper & has the tactical nouse of a 5 year old.

At least I stand by my convictions, I've said so from the start, he's the a square peg in a round hole, he ain't done a thing to improve the squad and 'Yorkshire' YES last seasons team was better....they finished 9th. I honestly think Keane will take us down....there are plenty more experienced managers out there who could save us the red faces Scum fans had last year!!!

I like keane because he has always been a honest bloke and if there is something to be said he says it. But i am getting fed up of keane tellling us about how the teams poor league positon is alll his fault. How about he stops saying that and just stops making tactical mistakes. Then everyone's happy.

Keane has always said judge him on on the league table at the end of the season. Can we take that risk especially with the last 6 game run in in April/May? Is the 'Ipswich way' sticking with a manager even if relegation seems as likely as staying up? I'm as passionate as the next man when it comes to our club and it frustrates me that many - including our board - are happy to stare into the league 1 abyss fast approaching? WHY?? Take action now before its too late..show some loyalty to the fans and take every measure possible to retain our championship future.

ITFC Stead 6 in 13 STARTS. Quality in our leauge.
CCFC Stead 2 in 3. Why did we loan him for these sleepy replacements?
Rhodes 14 ...... etc
This Colback LB thing .... WTF?
And as for this - as bad as John Duncan stuff - he was diabolical (depressing times) and managed 3 mid table finishes.
Bring on Yeovil....

We're not scoring goals so what does Keano do - yep, sends out our top scorer on loan to bang the goals in for a very average coventry team...is it me or am I missing something here?!

Come back George Burley..........for the love of God,please come back.
