Bruce Willing to Talk About Permanent Deals for Sunderland Pair
Bruce Willing to Talk About Permanent Deals for Sunderland Pair
Friday, 12th Mar 2010 15:26

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he would talk to Town about Daryl Murphy and David Healy joining the Blues permanently in the summer. The duo are currently on loan at Portman Road until the end of the season.

Bruce said: “Both Daryl and David seem happy with Ipswich. If Ipswich are happy with them we'll sit down and see if we can sort out something agreeable to all parties.”

Settling the terms of the duo’s current Premier League contracts is likely to be the main stumbling block with their current earnings probably close to double the highest wage at Portman Road, understood to be in the region of £12,000-a-week. Healy has another year left on his Black Cats deal, while Murphy’s contract is up in the summer of 2012.

Bruce is well aware that wages are the problem when players move out of the Premier League: “There's a big difference when dropping down to the Championship.

“This is reflected in wages and can be a barrier to stop a lot of players moving down.”

The former Manchester United defender says the duo would be unlikely to feature too often if they were to return to the Stadium of Light: “Both Daryl and David have been regular members of my squad, but realistically to be fair to them it is time to move on. Their chances at Sunderland are limited.

“They both have lots of good qualities, but I have Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones as my first choice strikers with Frazier Campbell next in line followed by my January signing Benjani.”

Murphy has scored five goals in eight starts since joining the Blues, while Healy has netted once in four starts and three sub appearances.

Sunderland are likely to be unwilling to allow midfielder Jack Colback to move on a permanent basis. The 20-year-old is also on loan at Portman Road until the end of the season.

Surely I'm not the only one on here who misread that and wondered why Bruce Willis had moved into football deal brokering?

Murphy has been an excellent signing and has proved to the Roy haters that he can do a job. Deary me, I still remember the absolute rot spouted by some before th guy even kicked a ball. He's MUCH better than Stead.

Healy - agree with others - need to prove himself.

Although Healy hasn't score as many as Murphy 'yet' he is still a very good footballer and im sure goals will come.Colback would defiantly be a must to sign, however I can't see Sunderland letting such a talented player go.

I very much doubt we'll see Colback here next season on a permanent deal, he's one for the future (for Sunderland) and they're just farming him out on loan so he gets first team football. Healy and Murphy are different and would be easier to get as they're surplus to requirements for them, so this loan period could well have been negotiated with views to permanent deals.

I really hope that keane can snap up both of them but if we could only sighn one i would choose murphy. Altough i think the player we should try very hard to sighn on perminantly is jack colback.

Come on You TOWN!!

Would like to keep Murphy but unless Healey pulls something out of the bag before the end of the season, I wouldnt be bothered if he didnt stay. I still fail to see how anybody could be so convinced that Rhodes wouldnt have done a good job for us - he should have been given this season to test him at championship level. I am fed up of posters on here saying' He's gone, get over it'.I cant see how if he had been here, we would have scored any fewer goals! And, as it happens, that doesnt mean I am anti Keane.

Let's just see how the pair do for the rest of this season, if Murphy's goal average is still as good come May and Healy has shown he needed more games to prove his worth then the Club can decide.

There is a Chinese Proverb that goes something like this…

A farmer and his son had a beloved stallion who helped the family earn a living. One day, the horse ran away and their neighbors exclaimed, “Your horse ran away, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We'll see.”

A few days later, the horse returned home, leading a few wild mares back to the farm as well. The neighbors shouted out, “Your horse has returned, and brought several horses home with him. What great luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We'll see.”

Later that week, the farmer's son was trying to break one of the mares and she threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. The villagers cried, “Your son broke his leg, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We'll see.”

A few weeks later, soldiers from the national army marched through town, recruiting all the able-bodied boys for the army. They did not take the farmer's son, still recovering from his injury. Friends shouted, “Your boy is spared, what tremendous luck!” To which the farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We'll see.”

The moral of this story, is, of course, that no event, in and of itself, can truly be judged as good or bad, lucky or unlucky, fortunate or unfortunate, but that only time will tell the whole story. Additionally, no one really lives long enough to find out the ‘whole story,' so it could be considered a great waste of time to judge minor inconveniences as misfortunes or to invest tons of energy into things that look outstanding on the surface, but may not pay off in the end.

The wiser thing, then, is to live life in moderation, keeping as even a temperament as possible, taking all things in stride, whether they originally appear to be ‘good' or ‘bad.' Life is much more comfortable and comforting if we merely accept what we're given and make the best of our life circumstances. Rather than always having to pass judgement on things and declare them as good or bad, it would be better to just sit back and say, “It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think people could benefit abit from adopting a similar attitude towards results and players such as Priskin and even Martin!

Possibly the best comment I've ever seen on here. Couldn't agree with you more.

It's no good saying ' wages would be a problem Mr Keane, Clegg, and Evans' - in signing these two on permanent contracts next season.
IF THIS CLUB IS SERIOUS ABOUT ANY KIND OF SUCCESS BEING ACHIEVED NEXT SEASON - i.e. PROMOTION - start talking sense now.
