Icelandic midfielder Johan Gudjonsson has emerged as a possible Town target. He is currently with Dutch Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk and could well have been the man that George Burley flew to Europe to watch on Saturday.

Gudjonsson is 21 and has spent the last year at RKC. Previously he played in Belgium with Genk and Maastricht, and in Iceland with IA Akranes.

He is contracted with RKC until 2005 and last season scored two goals in 18 games.

George Burley is known to have watched a player in continental Europe on Saturday, a day when Gudjonsson's club RKC beat Regioteam 13-0 in a pre-season friendly, the Icelander scoring a goal.

Burley will speak to Real Mallorca's Finidi George this week hoping to persuade the Nigerian to move to Portman Road. If this bid fails could Gudjonsson be the player George Burley then looks to?

Finidi's Nigerians qualified for the World Cup in Japan and Korea yesterday, after they beat Ghana 3-0.

The Ghanaians weren't helped when they substituted their keeper, James Nanor, after he made several mistakes. His replacement Osei Boateng perhaps did worse, receiving a red card just two minutes after coming on for handling the ball outside the area.

Finidi has said he may retire from international football after the World Cup.
