Both Wrights Amongst Those Released
Both Wrights Amongst Those Released

TWTD understands that Richard Wright and David Wright have been told that their Town contracts will not be renewed when they expire at the end of the season. Defender Pim Balkestein can also leave the club during the summer, while Jon Stead and loanee Liam Rosenior have been told they are not in Roy Keane’s plans for next season.

The decision to release Richard Wright, who rejoined his hometown club two years ago, comes as no shock with Brian Murphy increasingly establishing himself as the club’s number one and with the former England man a high earner.

David Wright’s exit after three and a half years at the club is perhaps more surprising given that he is in the team at present, although Keane brought Rosenior in on loan for the season in August, indicating that the former Wigan man wasn’t a player he particularly rated and had also made a move for Danny Simpson before he joined Newcastle.

Balkestein, whose two-year deal is up in June, although the club had the option of a third season, has fallen out of favour in the second half of this season and is currently on loan at Brentford. The Bees are understood to be interested in signing the former Heerenveen man on a permanent basis, while the player is considering moving back to Holland.

Rosenior, whose Reading contract is up this summer, had established himself as Town’s first choice right-back until the latter stages of the season when he fell out of favour, particularly after his performance at Watford.

Stead, who is contracted to Town until the summer of 2011, joined Coventry on loan in January having failed to score enough goals in the first half of the season. A fee for Stead's permanent move to the Sky Blues is believed to have been agreed, although personal terms are yet to be settled. Daryl Murphy looks to be a direct replacement for the much-travelled former England U21 international.

Town have 11 players who are out of contract this summer and not all have them have yet been told their futures. Boss Roy Keane has also said that a number of players who will still be in contract next season are also likely to be on their way.

Mr Blueknight85..where did I say that David Wright should be used as back-up??
I stated that he can cover any of the back 4 positions - as in he can play in any of the back 4 positions and then stated that we're better defensively when he plays..clear enough?

Maybe you should read the messages thoroughly before jumping down people's throats?

BTW..maybe a couple of our players would get more of a chance in the team if they changed their names to Jon O'Stead & David O'Wright...just a suggestion Roy.

I'd rather keep Bruce than D.Wright, D.Wright is good but he is getting on. Glad R.Wright is going, just not good enough anymore.

As Murphy is only 26 he still has about another 6 years till he hits his prime.

Firstly, key words 'TWTD Understands' .... that is to say this has NOT been confirmed before we all throw our toys out of the pram. But commenting on the speculation:

R. Wright: Poor season. Injury prone in the past and again proved this season. Made countless errors in Roy's time as manager - rumoured to be on £12K a week. It would be a shock if he WAS offered a new contrat!

Pim: Not good enough. Good decision.

Stead: Ditto - but no guarantee any other club will want him.

D. Wright: This would be a shame. But clearly Roy has some issue with him. You also have to remember that Roy has to reduce the squad size and Wright was a JM signing. At any club a new manager brings in his own resources. That said, I rate David highly, so hope this is not true. Won't lose any sleep mind.

Rosenior - probably not worth a contract.

Sorry lightening I put the wrong name it was suppose to be to itfc1985 the post below yours.
But D.wright is no CB he is only worth a place in the full back positions and not exceptional in those either just consistently average with rarely any mistakes defensively and level headed
whether or not Keane manages to get a better player in that works out is a completely different question of course

Fck SAKE KEANE SORT IT OUT!

1. D.Wright has been solid for us when needed.
2. R.Wright should be given another chance he's been injured.
3. Pim can go.
4. L.Roseinor what's wrong with him ?
5. WHY GET RID OF YOUR TOP SCORER?

Keane is always very quick to move players on not quite so good at bringing players in who are of better quality we shall see.

In response to Naa's earlier comments to me about Murphy being our new No. 1.

All I have said in my comment was that Murphy is younger than Wright. And in my opinion 3-4 years is quite a difference especially if you are trying to create a solid squad full of players who are in it for the long haul and not a 30 something who is going to be about for one season.

As for D Wright, I agree wit some of the comments about him being consistent, aggressive, reliable. But, he was never in Keanes plans during the season and it was clear to see. Like it or not, I think we all knew it was going to happen.

If Keane makes a big error in who he gets in as a replacement, we'll know exactly who to blame, but you dont get anywhere in this game by making all the popular decisions.

Am quite surprised by this. Can anyone seriously argue that right back has been one of our weakest areas this season? Wright and Rosenior may not be Premiership quality, but they are solid Championship - suddenly we're looking pretty weak in both full back areas.

Hope Keane knows what he's doing...

slow down pique we aren't looking weak yet no one has gone and no one knows who will replace anyone...
I for one would definitely say all 4 wide positions have been a problem all season.

Keane your a dimwit, Richard is a far better keeper than that clown Murphy and David Wright is a solid right back, you are absolutely cluelees arent you Keane?

Oh and Daryl Murphy is pants too, get a hungry striker like Ricky Lambert or Hooper

Blueknight85:

Fair points. I agree that we've looked weak in all four wide positions, but I would have probably said that right back was probably the strongest of the four, with Wright, Rosenior and Peters if necessary. Still, as you say, nobody's gone anywhere yet.

Blueknight85 added 07:20 - Apr 29
also pique Right back probably has been the strongest or atleast most consitant of the four but that does not mean it has been good enough to go forward
