Keane: Wrights Unavailable
Keane: Wrights Unavailable
Sunday, 2nd May 2010 21:35

Manager Roy Keane says released pair David and Richard Wright made themselves unavailable for Sunday’s game against Sheffield United due to injury. The Blues boss says the pair would have been involved in the season’s last match.

Keane said: “A couple of players today missed the game through injury, David Wright and Richard Wright.

“They didn’t make themselves available for today, and they would have been involved, most definitely.

“Strangely they turned in for training yesterday not 100% fit. One trained and then walked in after half an hour saying he wasn’t right. But there you go.”

This whole episode leaves a bad taste in the mouth. If they had been a couple of randoms it wouldn't matter so much, but both David and Richard have given an awful lot to this club over the years, and deserved better, in my opinion. There was no need to inform them (and the public) that their contracts weren't being renewed before the final game - a meaningless fixture against Sheffield United is not much of a shop window, and I doubt either will struggle to find a new club. Badly done, Roy.

Didn't make themselves available because RK sacked them, and now he goes bleating on to the press again.

I seem to remember RK walking out his national squad because the training ground wasn't quite right, or the pillows weren't comfy or some such drivel. When will our manager get a grip?

RK off like a rat up a drain at the end - not much sense of duty showing there, heh? "But there you go".

I can understand them feeling bitter about not being offered deals, but I thought they were both more professional than this. It's also clear that they didn't consider the fans who have stuck by them, who didn't get to give them a proper farewell as a result of their actions. For the sake of sticking two fingers up to one man, they have let down 20,000 others.

Agree, perhaps Keane should walked round the pitch at the end irrespective whether he was embarrassed to do so or not. He made some of the players do so and I don't suppose they wanted to do, he should have done the same rather than dismiss the fans. Perhaps he will not have to do this next year as he may not be there!
Shame about the 2 Wrights, i would have hoped that he would at least have discussed wages with them with a view to renewing a contract but on a salary to match the clubs latest wage structure if wages was an issue, who knows? The problem with the 2 Wrights was there names were not O'Wright and perhaps had Sunderland history lol!

The thing I don't understand about the release of D. Wright is that we now have no right backs at the club. Even if we accept that hew was not the best and somebody better has to come in..........
1. We haven't got that person yet, and the way thiungs wer last year there is no guarantee that the person we get will be better, and ......
2. If the new boy gets injured, who is going to cover? Peters is not up to it. He was like a rabbit caught in headlights yesterday.

Pablo was seen at the ground yesterday in jean and a tee shirt. If he can't be bothered to thank the fans for the tremendous support that we have given him over the years, then good riddance to him.

Are people forgetting Wright walking out on us when Arsenal came sniffing. His career has never recovered. Jim gave him a chance and he never really took it. Keano has done well to get rid of a high wage earner who is in it for the money. Just because he is local doesn't mean he cares!!

Feel soory For D Wright he was a good servant and better than some this season.

To all of you that dislike Keane and want immidiate results. Do you remember that Sir Bobby Robson needed four seasons before he had any sucsess with ITFC?

Both have been great servants to the Football Club. I would suggest that both will be fondly remembered long after RK has gone.

Thanks both for some fantastic memories.

jas0999 - you really do scrape every little bit of support you can for RK. Do you really think RW and DW were out of order to make themselves unavailable for yesterdays game ? IMO they did absolutely right in what they did - I, and many would have done likewise. I can, to some extent understand letting RW move on at this stage of his career, but not DW - the most reliable, and possibly dedicated, player at the club - not mentioning his professionalism.
Whatever, both these players have been huge assets to our club over time, and deserve some respect.

I don't care how professional or otherwise the Wrights were in this instance (personally, I'm with them on it) but Roy had no right to say this in a press conference. It's a personal matter between him and two people that essentially aren't his players anymore and both of which he's undermined all season.

Sometimes he just needs to learn to not speak.

Two great servants two the club and keane has to have a go at thenm before they leave. All this talk of characters - what rubbish it just means people who do see things exactley his way. what character laid back Carlos Edwarda has. As with the Mariner incident keane should have kept his mouth shut and shown some dignity but no he has to have a go. I wish he would just leave.

They both turned up at the Supporters Club player of the year event, so maybe their actions were towards the manager rather than the fans. Im assuming Mr Keane was out walking the dog Sunday night as he was a no show!!

RK keeps saying how much he's learned this year, well one of the things he needs to learn is to keep schtum sometimes. After all, he regretted his "some players will never play again" rubbish from earlier this season, I just wish he'd stop doing it. It's embarrassing. And this was a really childish and petty thing to have said.

Problem is, he seems to be very quick to make his mind up about people and is also very strong-willed, and so reluctant to change his mind, or let others change it for him.

He's also very petty, as evidenced by going on about the 2002 world cup all over again this season (in a rant in which told the Irish that they needed to 'get over' the Henry handball thing. The hypocrisy was way over his head it seems).

There, that's my character assassination done. Now let's hope he signs some decent players this summer.

AshfordBlue - if you are correct in saying that RK didn't show for the Supporters Club Player of the Year event - then the man is a total disgrace.
What respect is he showing for ANYONE in not doing so ? - about time he started to 'practice what he preaches', hopefully after he has left us and whilst we still have a club left.
