Keane Reveals TV Offers
Keane Reveals TV Offers
Friday, 7th May 2010 10:56

Boss Roy Keane has revealed that he has had offers of television punditry roles ahead of this summer’s World Cup. The Blues boss has already said that he plans to take in a few games in South Africa.

Keane told the club site: "I've had one or two offers from TV companies to work at the World Cup and I might surprise everyone and go. I did say might!

"It would be a good opportunity to watch some games and hopefully Tommy Smith will be there with New Zealand, so I might get the chance to see him in a World Cup environment.

"As a manager you are always watching matches anyway. Not necessarily to watch a particular player, just to enjoy a game."

Perhaps Sir Roy of Keane can sit in a hot, stuffy studio in South Africa with other 'experts' Mick McArthey and Patrick Viera. You'd see some 'punditry' then!

Hope nobody asks him an awkward question - he'll probably storm out and bear a grudge about it for the next 10 years or so

Not sure Keane should be lounging around at the World Cup. He should be earning his crust sorting our squad out for next season, making sure we make a serious attempt at promotion. Can't help feeling he's treating our club & Evans money like he's playing some football manager computer game.

I wasn't really going to pay much attention to the World Cup this time but the thought of Roy kicking off with the pundits just might be unmissable. I bet Sky are tempting him, given their high profile of his press conferences this season. He might liven up some of those stiffs in the pundit box!

We are exactly the sort of club whose manager should be at the World Cup.

Yeah we all know about the players knocking about in the Championship and lower leagues but this is a chance for Keane to cast his eyes over the next Palacios, Figeroa and so on. With some of the smaller American and South American nations, lesser European clubs and so on we have a realistic chance of pursuading some good talent to come to the club, that we probably wouldn't get to know about. Keane being out there might give him a headstart if anything like this emerged.

Plus if he's being paid to be a pundit it's not on ITFC's scouting expenses either. As Keane has said there is little he can do when free agents are on holidays mulling over their futures and the squads having a break til what the end of June?

So a great opportunity in my eyes.

Infront of the cameras yakking about everything under the sun - except anything involving ITFC.

He's certainly a dab hand at that.

Gotta agree ASA, scout out those players from African countries etc.
No-one thinks we will sign any Brazillian or Argentinian etc, but from the lesser countries a rough diamond may emerge, and being there Keane is ahead of the opposition surely?

As for punditry (is it me or does that sound too much like muppetry?)Love him or loathe him,his soundbites are worth a giggle aren't they?
He says it as he sees it, whether you agree or not, he will ruffle a few feathers, and raise the profile of ITFC, priceless if you are ME!!

..but Roy..I thought you were going to spend the summer sorting out the mess you've got us into...?

NO one at the world cup finals is going to sign for a bum championship team like us AND if smith goes and shines he will be off to a top club like Scunthorpe, Derby or Doncaster ( all finnished above us) Of course we should give keen another year just so he and evans can make sure they have really F*cked us up

It's definitely ITV who are trying to get him. Apparently the stumbling block is the old trouble and strife isn't so keen!

Asa, as Animal said, good point. If he didn't go to the world cup, the moaners and doubters would be saying ''Why wasn't he at the World Cup? Scouting some potential gems from some of the lesser nations''
Not been the best season, but second half of the season has shown massive improvement and encouragement for next year. Roy just can't seem to win whatever he does, there'll always be those on here who knock him.

Must have been a slow news day! I would be surprised if Roy wasn't taking in some games. Part of his job surely? Unbelievable that some can even find a reason to moan about Roy with this story!

I'd say he is well suited to a career as a pundit. They think they can walk on water when they have trouble wading through a shallow puddle.
Still if he decides he likes it we will be able to get a proper manager who knows what he is doing.
