Keane: Only Top Six Acceptable
Keane: Only Top Six Acceptable
Wednesday, 2nd Jun 2010 08:54

Town manager Roy Keane says finishing anywhere other than in the top six next season will be unacceptable. The Blues ended Keane's first season in charge in a disappointing 15th place in the Championship.

Keane told the club site: “There were expectations that we would be up there challenging for promotion when I arrived at the club, but that's what Ipswich Town should be aiming for.

"Players have to deal with those expectations, just like managers do. I'd rather aim the bar high and go for it.

"We came up short last season though, particularly at the start and there will be no room for error next year.

"I keep saying I live in the real world. Having another poor start or repeating the mistakes we made last year won't be tolerated.

"I know what is expected. It's competing in the top six. I've heard people mention mid-table. It's got to be the top six. Anything else is not acceptable."

Meanwhile, former Blue Darren Ambrose’s £750,000 move from Crystal Palace to QPR is now in doubt with the CPFC 2010 consortium close to completing the deal to buy the Eagles and keen to keep the midfielder.

Ambrose has already agreed personal terms and has undergone a medical at Loftus Road but, given the change of circumstances at Selhurst Park, Rangers, managed by ex-Palace boss Neil Warnock, may now have to up their offer for the former England U21 international.

YES, thank god for that comment! There's no hope in hell we're gonna finish 6th and its going to be the same story as last year so basically its a sure fire thing hes gonna be gone by xmas, and the club can then move forward...but in all honesty, how about we get rid now, EVANS?

keane said anything below top 6 is unacceptable, as in 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd or 1st would be acceptable. i for one would deem any of those positions more then acceptable.

keane said long ago that getting ipswich up was a tougher job then he thought and would probably take longer then the two years he originally claimed.

i think some people do need to give keane a break. you cant bear a grudge because he came in all billy big bollo cks and said 'ill get you up no probs', only to have the worst start to the season possible. he's admitted he was wrong and spent all of last season, working to try and put things right.

its so hard to defend keane because his record for us has been dross. if keane fails it is a failure for him as a manager, not ipswich as a club. we still have so much going for us, we are a stable club with achievable ambitions. to be honest, the team is just as good as it was last season under magilton but has badly underperformed. arguably we are stronger in certain areas and this IS down to keane.

I dont see why people cant draw a line in the sand between how keane started and what he's trying to do now for next season. there is no crisis at this football club!!

nobodys really started signing anyone yet anyway. i can only really think of barcelona getting villa and mourinho going to madrid. jeez, i think people need to be a bit more patient!

rant over, COYB!

if we want to finish in the top 6 we will need a top 6 manager not a mid table manager like the one we currently have

Agree that only top 2 finish will be acceptable after the rubbish we had to sit through this season!

MChambers - On your list of Transfer deals thus far, which one of those signings would you advocate ITFC realistically signing. IMO None. So your point is ??

Of course we all want to see the club sign good, quality players asap, however none of us know what negotiations are going on behind the scenes, what deals are in place for players pending replacements etc.

And I am not Pro Keane or Anti Keane, I support ITFC and will support the team & management until they are no longer part of the club. We need to be patient & get behind the team, after all we are SUPPORTers !!!

You are all talk and "bootcamp " Keane ! Said it before , we need a manger who will bring out the best in players, give them confidence and pride -not a man who thinks he can just rant and expect results !

We should have pipped QPR to Ambrose, solid player!

Top 2 is the target surely!

Problem is, Ambrose was pants when he was here on loan under Magilton. Not sure if that was the fault of the player or the manager, but no doubt it will have been Keano's fault somehow, lol!

debenblue my point is that other teams are out buying players, and we are not because keane cant attract any quality players to the club, party because no players really want to play for him and other managers im sure dont want to do business with him. Hes a tw@t and a crap manager
