Stead Linked With Huddersfield Return
Stead Linked With Huddersfield Return
Sunday, 6th Jun 2010 12:01

Striker Jon Stead is reported to be in line for a possible return to his hometown club Huddersfield Town. Stead, who has another year on his contract at Portman Road, is one of the players likely to be considered surplus to requirements this summer.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan at Coventry City and looked set to sign a permanent deal with the Sky Blues. A £400,000 fee was understood to have been agreed between the clubs, but manager Chris Coleman’s replacement with Aidy Boothroyd may have scuppered that move.

Other Championship clubs are also likely to be interested, so a switch to a League One side would perhaps be a surprise move, although the former England U21 international started his career at Huddersfield and was born in the Yorkshire town.

Stead is said to be holding talks with the Terriers regarding his potential return later in the week.

Huddersfield’s squad already features two ex-Blues, striker Jordan Rhodes and midfielder Gary Roberts.

Meanwhile, Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has says he has received no approaches for veteran defender Ian Harte, despite the Blues, Norwich, Watford, QPR and former club Leeds having been linked in recent weeks: “We are looking to construct a team and Ian will be part of that. Nobody has come in for him and I want him here and in my starting 11."

Speculation regarding current Town interest in Harte stems from the Blues' attempt to sign the former Ireland international on loan in November.
