Town Amongst Clubs in McSheffrey Hunt
Town Amongst Clubs in McSheffrey Hunt
Wednesday, 9th Jun 2010 22:09

Town are amongst a host of clubs interested in released Birmingham left winger Gary McSheffrey. The Blues, Sheffield United, Charlton, German side Hannover 96 and former club Coventry City are all vying for the free agent’s signature.

The 27-year-old, who can also operate up front, started his career with hometown club Coventry, making his first senior appearance in a Premier League victory at Aston Villa in February 1998 when aged only 16 years and 198 days.

While at Highfield Road, McSheffrey spent time on loan at Swedish side IK Brage, Stockport County and Luton (twice). In August 2006 the 5ft 8in tall wideman moved on to Birmingham for £4 million.

The former England U20 international joined Nottingham Forest on loan briefly towards the end of 2008/09 and moved to Leeds United on a similar basis in January.

Former club Coventry would appear to be strong favourites for McSheffrey’s signature with the midfielder still living close to his home town.

A left-sided midfielder is very much on Town’s radar this summer with Peterborough’s George Boyd, Spurs youngster Andros Townsend and Charlton’s Nicky Bailey all also understood to be on manager Roy Keane's list of potential targets.

Suffolk N Good, I must agree that Priskin is worth a 2nd look, at least pre season and maybe a few games early on. You don't become a bad player in one season, although he was particularly poor for us I'm sure he has something to offer.

Joeippy - Are you Tresor Kandol's agent or something? His track record at Leeds wasn't a lot to shout about - 1 goal every 5 games and a fair few red cards. It isn't a good idea to judge a player on the strength of a 2 minute collection of highlights on youtube, as we learned last year with Tamas Priskin! Don't get me wrong, you may well be right and TK might score a hatful of goals next season, but I doubt it will be for us, as he doesn't really fit in with the Roy Keane template.

one of my close friends is a football agent but not me myself, kandol is old newcastle player lualua's cousin and they are very simular players, kandol played a big part in leeds first season at leeds but then fell out with simon grayson, was sent on loan to charlton in the championship whilst leeds were in laegue 1 (played around 8 games and chipped in with a couple of goals). his big powerful and fast and can finesh. i think he could be worth a shout and he want to move down south to london area where a lot of his family is based. his only 28 aswell so not too old. this video is better:

It does make me laugh how people dismissed Jordan Rhodes scoring exploits as "it's only league 1" and he's not good enough for Ipswich, but that another player who was only on the bench for another league 1 team would be good enough. Is it that they just twist things to fit in with whatever keane is doing.

Would be a good signing on a free transfer.

would be a gd signing but if I had a choice id sign George Boyd, if we ended up getting boyd and chopra this summer alone id be happy. I know peterborough went down and ultimately weren't gd enough but boyd really did look pretty classy playing in a struggling team. they say the league doesn't lie but posh still had some decent wins in the season. id also be happy if we got Mcsheffrey but I seem to remember that he was linked before, could be an interesting summer
