Edwards: Take in Every Moment
Edwards: Take in Every Moment
Thursday, 10th Jun 2010 08:50

Midfielder Carlos Edwards says team-mate Tommy Smith should relish every moment of his World Cup experience with New Zealand. Edwards played at the last World Cup with Trinidad and Tobago, a nation similarly regarded as footballing minnows.

Edwards told the club site: "We were the smallest nation to reach the World Cup and Trinidad just went crazy when we played our matches.

"It was a fantastic experience for us as players and for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

"Obviously we are disappointed we are not out there in South Africa this year, but I know Tommy is and I hope he enjoys the tournament as much as I did four years ago.

"The World Cup is a fantastic occasion and you have to try and take in every moment."

Edwards, who is an ambassador for England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018, is currently back in the Caribbean preparing for his wedding.

New Zealand and Smith play their opening World Cup group game against Slovakia in Rustenburg on Tuesday, with Italy the All Whites’ second opponents in Nelspruit five days later. They complete their opening phase matches against Paraguay in Polokwane on June 24th.
