Town Issue Vuvuzela Ban
Town Issue Vuvuzela Ban
Thursday, 17th Jun 2010 17:03

The vuvuzela, the controversial sound of this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, won’t be coming to Portman Road next season. The Blues have imposed a ban on the plastic horns which have been one of the main talking points of this summer's tournament.

Town's head of safety and security, Mick Warden, told the club site: "We have had a couple of enquiries about bringing vuvuzelas to games here next season.

"But they are classed as a musical instrument and our ground regulations state that no musical instruments are allowed into the stadium for games without permission and that won't be given.

"We have also been contacted by the national charity Deafness Research UK to say that there is evidence that fans risk permanent noise-induced hearing loss through the constant use of vuvuzelas."

Of all the grounds where vuvus would be detrimental to atmosphere ... And how can it be a musical instrument? It only has one note. Mind you, I guess a drum does too.

Thank christ for that. If I wanted to hear continual buzzing at Portman Road I would bring a beehive with me! I hope that just perhaps we may have some singing and chanting at home matches next season...and not just from the away fans...you never know if might just help the team?!

I gather that displaying enjoyment and creating atmosphere will also be banned although with Keane in charge that goes without saying.

I'm sure Keane is behind this ban !!! I wanted to play it when our "messiah" finally gets the boot.

OH! I couldn't afford a vuvuzele, so I have been catching bees and keeping them in a baked bin tin, ready for the start of the season

I think they could be fun for a couple of games but people would get bored of them quickly. I think banning them is OTT.

Well im 20 and cant stick them. I dont think its age specific. It just drowns out the rest of the atmosphere. And i know some smartarse will come back and say that there is no atmosphere in portman road. But i know PR can get going if there is some decent football on the pitch. And when that does happen i would rather hear the crowd respond to the game, rather than just a constant drone regardless of the football.

Best random news story I've seen this year. Good to see ITFC quickly stamping out any sort of noise/fun/atmosphere at PR. We couldn't have any of that now could we...

Probably a good idea, but I can see a legal challenge here. Is it a horn, is it a trumpet ... no its a vuvuzela!

Looks like they are scared there might actually be an atmosphere ar Portman Road if they allowed them!!! I sat in South upper all last season which was totally devoid of any atmosphere. let them in I say!!
