Returning midfielder Luciano Civelli says his switch from squad number 13 to 26 had nothing to do with the ill luck he has suffered since he joined the Blues in January 2009. The Argentinian made his first appearances in 16 months last week at Newmarket and Histon, a knee ligament injury having put him out of action in only his eighth game for the Blues.

The 23-year-old said: “Thirteen has been my favourite number since I was 14-years-old when I played for my little town [Pehuajó] with that number. It’s not the first time I used it here in Ipswich.

“The gaffer changed the numbers and I’m now number 26. It’s not my best number, but it’s OK. I would prefer to keep number 14 but it’s OK to play with number 26, it’s fine.”

So far Civelli has played for two 30-minute spells but is hoping to be fit enough for Championship action either by the start of the season or in the first few weeks of the campaign.
