Wright Training With Palace
Wright Training With Palace
Thursday, 15th Jul 2010 10:11

Released keeper Richard Wright is reported to be training with George Burley’s Crystal Palace and is looking to win a contract offer from his old boss. TWTD revealed that Wright would be interested in a move to Selhurst Park late last month.

Burley offering Wright a deal could depend on Julian Speroni staying at Selhurst Park. QPR and West Ham have been linked with the Argentinian this summer.

Another former Town keeper, Lewis Price, is also set to join Palace as back-up, having been released by Derby at the end of the season. Full-back David Wright recently signed for the Eagles after leaving the Blues.

Manchester City are reported to have ended their pursuit of Wright, having re-signed Wright’s former Arsenal team-mate Stuart Taylor as cover for Shay Given and Joe Hart. Wright, 32, has also been mentioned in connection with League One Charlton.

Meanwhile, former Town striker David Johnson was in court in Nottingham yesterday after causing £6,000 of damage to his wife’s home and car.

Good luck to him, not that I am pro-Keane, but just pointing out that we're not the only team who's manager likes to get the old boys back together. I've been in situations where you're doing really well as a company/team/group because the dynamic is right, but if someone leaves or something changes it can all go down hill and you're always left saying, 'if only we had X,Y and Z back here It would be just like the old days when we were flying' - whether that always works, dunno, but I know there are people out there I know I can work with and will always be able to work with, suppose the same is true in football; so not a surprising bit of news and think it will work well for him.

On the other note, sad to read about DJ, hope they sort it out amicably, never nice to read stories like that - very sad.

Palace are shaping up for a top six finish, with or without Wright.

Always sad to hear of ex-players having problems. When will we see another 30-goal-a-season striker at PR? Good luck DJ!

I remember one night many moons ago in Brannigans, RW and DJ together acting the BIG I AM, smoking cigars, freaking out on the dancefloor. Looked a right couple of wallys. No relevance to the story really. Just reminiscing.

Real shame to hear about David Johnson's troubles, I never met him myself but knew Town fans and a couple of Forest fans who had met in both on Club events and in everyday life. The consistent report was that he was quiet and polite, a pleasure to do business with. But relationship breakdowns do bring out the worst in people, let's hope he gets back on the straight and narrow soon - it can take a while, though.

Good Luck to Wrighty, I echo the comments about David Johnson, real nice guy, but we can all have problems in life, hope he sorts them out soon.
