Wickham Has No Intention of Moving On
Wickham Has No Intention of Moving On
Tuesday, 20th Jul 2010 15:16

Town striker Connor Wickham has reiterated his commitment to the Blues, despite renewed speculation regarding interest from Tottenham and Arsenal. Last week, the Gunners were reported to be ready to outbid their north London rivals for the highly-rated 17-year-old.

However, Wickham says he has no intention of moving on: “I’m looking forward to staying with Ipswich and nothing has changed.”

Unconfirmed reports over the weekend claimed Town had put a £10 million price-tag on the England U17 international’s head, while Spurs had previously been reported to have made bids of £5 million and £8 million for the Hereford-born youngster.

Firstly I don't want Connor to leave .
But I don't know if town can but they need to get him on a longer contract because in a year and a half he can walk away from us for nothing, so if arsenal do come in with £10 million I would take it.

Gypo - As far as I know, ITFC were only able to offer him a maximum 2 year deal because of his age. However, were aresnal to offer £10m for him tomorrow, they could offer him a 5 year deal. These rules hardly supprt the academy system and need changing.

Hey BedsitFC

Wickham could play for Ireland yet however unlikely that is!!
Lets hope so!
Actually Wayne Rooney could also have played for Ireland, at least we have Kevin Doyle!

We need to hold on to Connor for the season ahead, losing him at this stage would be a disaster, however ...
Should we get a bid of £10m (possibly even an £8m) which includes a loan back to Ipswich for the FULL season, I do think it's worth considering.
He is a great young player and a terrific prospect, but at this stage he is no more than that. We all think he'll have a great season and be hugely important for us but there are no guarantees that he will develop into a player of full international quality. The lower leagues are full of players who never lived up to expectation or were unlucky enough to suffer serious injury or an illness that they never fully came back from.
Scoring goals at underage international level is a good sign but in no way a sure indication of becoming a top Premiership player or even an average Premiership player - look at Pablo for evidence of that.
No player outside the Premiership has moved for anything like £10m up to now, not even one who has been relegated after already showing they can cut it there. It's a huge risk for the buying club.
Let's face it, the way the pre-season has gone, and the how the squad is shaping up, we are unlikely to be a top 6 side come May and he is likely to want to move on next Summer anyway. If he doesn't quite live up to current billing or if he picks up an injury, the bids may not be so large at that time. Without having played in the Premiership no manager is going to risk more than £10m on a player surely. Connor's stock with us is not going to be any higher that it is right now.
If RK has 4/5 good players coming in - 2 full backs, a centre half,a playmaker & striker - that he's keeping quiet about & that will make us real challengers by getting the balance of the squad right, well then I'll change my mind, but there is no evidence whatsoever that that will happen.

Any deal would have to include the loan back for the FULL season - that has to be key in any negotiation.

Risking abuse for being negative, I agree with Jas099. Ultimately it will not be his decision. The 'management' (no I am not knocking keane) will agree a fee and the terms of the sale. Connor will then negotiate his salary. Yes he may turn down megabucks and stay with us, but somehow I don't think so.

He will go if anyone meets with ME/Clegg's valuation and terms.

He will be a Spurs player soon! Why would he not want to play for a Champions League team! You should take the £10m and be grateful you have enough debt and a manger would will turn and run after he fails again! Wickham wants out and would be better off at Norwich!

Why would Connor go to Spurs? They are a small club in comparison to Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea, who have all been linked with him. Just because spurs fluked there way into the champo league with a dodgy, bung-taking, crook of a manager, it doesn't mean that they are the team who will be the best for Connor.

Oh and also, 'Yids', I'm not sure how Keane, a living legend, would quit when he 'fails again'. Have I missed something? When did he first fail? By my reckoning, getting a team into the Prem and keeping them their is success in itself, let alone what he achielved during his playing days.

Norwich are a bigger club than you tom_the_blue!
He would come for a Champions League team like Spurs!
He doesn't want to be playing away at Scunthorpe he wants to be
at the Nou Camp! I hope you enjoy Roy's great Management style
next season when he takes you down, but i think he will quit before that
to walk his dogs. Come on Connor join a real team come to Spurs
don't play for a below average debt ridden Championship team who
play in a shed of a ground. They are going no where fast except down
and you would be better off at Norwich!

YIDS, did you actually read the article before deciding to sprout all that rubbish? It says Connor doesn't want to leave the best club their is, Ipswich Town, so thats the end of it, he doesnt want to join a club run by someone who will put all the money from the champo league in his back pocket, and then walk out on you when he has wruined you. It is no coincidence that Pompey and Southampton, and West Ham in th short term, have struggled financially due to Harry's dealings. The same will happen to you, and Connor doesnt want to be a part of that.

They all say that he not a stupid kid he knows what to tell
the fans of a small town team to keep them sweet!
tom_the_blue wake up son he is going to leave for bigger and
better things than Ipswich Town! You guys can't even compete
in the Championship! Your rivals are bigger than you and you are just there
to make up the numbers! Keane wants out he has no money to spend
and a terrible squad! Enjoy your last season in the Championship and look forward to trips to Yeovil, Hartlepool and Rochdale! Connor is a YID COYS!!!
Hope the Canary's smash you up this season too!

at the connor wickham song, dont think it will take off, our fans dont like getting behind players and singing, would rather sit in silence, portman road was like a exam hall last season. terrible, im sure if he has a few bad games like trotter people will be calling for him to leave, the fans are a disgrace. we should get behind every player because it will only benefit the club!

tom_the_blue you seem to have gone quite! Just like all the Ipswich fans will be for most of the season this year. Connor to Spurs let him play for a real football club not a bottom 5 Championship side.
