Chopra Threatens to Quit Crisis Club Cardiff
Chopra Threatens to Quit Crisis Club Cardiff
Friday, 23rd Jul 2010 09:14

Town target Michael Chopra says he is “well hacked off” with the situation at Cardiff City and could quit the crisis club. The Blues are understood to have been chasing the former Sunderland frontman all summer.

Cardiff’s finances appear to have improved little despite a takeover by a Malaysian consortium at the end of last season. They are still to entirely pay an outstanding PAYE tax debt and are subject to a transfer embargo having failed to pay £500,000 due to Charlton for defender Mark Hudson.

Yesterday, SPL side Motherwell revealed that a second payment of £100,000 for right-back Paul Quinn has also not been paid. Cardiff have renegotiated when they will pay Sunderland £1.5 million owed on last summer's £3 million Chopra deal, while the club has requested that players defer their bonuses and appearance fees during the ongoing crisis.

To make matters worse, manager Dave Jones has been linked with the Fulham job, although Cardiff have denied that an approach has been made.

Chopra says he is becoming increasingly fed up with what appears to be a worsening situation: “I’m well hacked off. If this club does not bring in new players, I’m off.

“I’ve had a enough of this. Nothing is moving with just a couple of weeks to go before the new season.

“I can see that we will struggle this season if people at board level don’t get real and sort this matter out soon.”

The one-time Newcastle trainee says the Malaysian consortium had promised investment which would take the Bluebirds into the Premier League, but so far there is little sign that this will be forthcoming: “I was under the impression that the new board were coming in and spending money to take this club to the next level.

“But I don’t see that in any shape or form and it's very frustrating for me and the players who want to do well for this club next season.

“I’m happy playing for Cardiff, but I’ll be off if this continues. I’m ambitious and I want this club to meet those ambitions. If they can’t, what’s the point?"

Town boss Roy Keane is a long-time admirer of Chopra, who played for him at Sunderland, and the Blues are understood to have made a number of offers - reportedly of up to £4 million - to the Bluebirds for the 26-year-old over the course of the summer, but with a fee yet to be agreed.

im sure he's not nearly half as 'well hacked off' sitting around all summer on £10k per week as the cardiff ST holders who were promised their cash would be spent on investment..

however, before all the 'greedy' abuse.. taken at his literal word (though that should never be done with these morons) he's saying he will quit?!? if he walks out we would get him for, admittedly a large sign on fee, but for free.. ah hang on no, he will get a large sign on fee, cover the cost of his breach of contract, and use the clubs interested in him in in a bidding war.. he is a greedy turd afterall!!

I have said in this site before that this second rate greedy bstard is not welcome at our club and this just proves the point.
If I recall Cardiff's problems were there when he signed. Things are not going his way so he throws his toys out...just like he stamped on Garvan when he got no joy down here last season.
There is no way we should be wasting £4M on this tsser.

When I read this headline, I thought "happy days, improves our chances of getting him here". Should have known that most others would come out with crap like he's greedy and he talks like a chav! Some of you should look a bit closer to home before you criticise. You manage to come out with negative crap over every single story. You could have a headline saying "Rooney signs for Town", and some of you would just say "yeh, but he's a bit funny looking". Morons! As long as Chopra comes in and does the business, he can talk like Ali G for all I care.

Second rate sonian_blue??

Most bookies have him as second favourite to be top scorer in the Championship this season . . .

Highest Ipswich player is Connor Wickham in 21st place

even if he quit cardiff, why would he wants to join us? surely he would want to improve his career, not look to be entering a relegation scrap??!

To be honest the £1.3mil Celtic paid for D. Murphy is far better value than £4mil for Chops! Murphy is a good team player, pacy, good in the air and a decent goal scorer. A threat to any defense. He also played well enough with Wickham when they got the chance to suggest they could have developed a good partnership. Also I think Chops is a greedy player and may not link up well with Wickham. He only got 4 assists last season. I would have prefered if we signed Murphs up.
Also Joe Ledley and Ross McCormack from Cardiff would be good squad additions.

Well said Party Daz, the keyboard warriors on here would whinge no matter who we signed. Its about time we started giving people a chance at Fortress Portman Road like we did with Sir Alf and Sir Bobby who both had poor first seasons with us.

Maybe he only got 4 assists last season because he was too busy sticking the ball in the back of the net 21 times. I'd settle for him doing the same for Town this season.

Joe Ledley refused to sign a contract and has now signed for celtic for sweet fa !
So heres a local boy who supprted his club on the terraces and then to play for them only to walk away for a golden hand shake at celtic .
As stated in another post i dont want connor to go but
This is my concern about wickham and this could be what is dad is telling him to wait on for. Not exactly a local lad is he!

People seem to think as soon as/if we get chopra (big if) we will be winning the league hands down but we still have nothing in terms of service that was the problem last season (hence why we had so many shots because we had no one to get the ball into the strikers). And keane seems to want to make this worse by offloading our best midfielder? Wickham is still young and who i cant really see scoring 15-20 goals in the season so we cant rely on two half decnt strikers. Mid table finish here we come. Keane out.

I cant believe people are calling Chopra "Greedy" for wanting to be paid his wage and any bonuses he is owed! How long would you stay in a job where you didn't get paid?
Yes £4 million is probably too much but he is only 26 and we would either get a striker(proven at this level) for several years or sell him on for profit if he does well

That's great news. First it means we can still have Chopra and second - Cardiff will not be in the run for going up next season. I wouldn't mind the "strong" words Chopra has experessed. He thinks he is a Premiership player and if Cardiff can't give him that he wants to move. The question is can we give him that? I really hope so!

Don't get too excited. Chopra's just been on Sky sports news saying he will "probably" be playing for Cardiff next season. Lets hope administrators have to step in and flog him to us for peanuts.

Sounds very promising! Would be an excellent signing.

II think we should withdraw whatever agreed fee we have with Cardiff NOW. Then put in a much lower than £4m offer... around the £2.5 to £2.75m mark. They paid £3m, still owe £1.5m on him and if they don't pay it soon will be in real financial issues... they would probably take £2.5m now as it covers their £1.5m they owe Sunderland + the £500k tax bill, leaving them another £500k to settle other debts... we do not need to pay then £4m for Chopra!
