Town and Leeds to Move for Chopra
Town and Leeds to Move for Chopra
Friday, 30th Jul 2010 08:20

Town are set to make a renewed move to sign Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra, according to reports in Wales this morning. However, the Blues are said to face competition from Leeds United, who are expected complete the signing of Town defender Alex Bruce this morning.

Michael Chopra has long been understood to be Roy Keane’s number one summer target with the two close after their spell together at Sunderland and it is believed the Bluebirds turned down a Town offer of £3.75 million earlier in the summer.

However, with Chopra unhappy with the continuing financial crisis at Cardiff, the Blues are again reported to be keen to push through a deal by making a new offer. It’s understood that the initial bid was tabled towards the end of last season and that negotiations have continued throughout the summer.

Cardiff's current situation may force them to have to sell their prize asset to raise cash with fees owed to other clubs for various players, wages paid late last month and ongoing issues over unpaid PAYE.

Leeds United are also claimed to be interested in the 26-year-old, who Cardiff paid Sunderland £3 million for a year ago, but Portman Road continues to appear the former England U21 international’s most likely destination if he leaves the Bluebirds with the Whites perhaps not in a position to spend the amount of cash likely to be involved in the overall deal.

Meanwhile, Alex Bruce is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Elland Road this morning, a fee of £200,000 plus a further £100,000 on appearances having been agreed earlier in the week.

Parkinshair, and that was a lucky escape. I have posted on here many times that Chopra is coming here from the day that he alerted Keano through the press.

If we can get Chopra then I think the top 7 can be a very realistic target for this season.

Feel we need a more creative midfielder than Norris and Leadbitter, neither of whom are going to score many from midfield.

This would be a massive signing and one that would get everyone excited! If you cant pull this off Keano, especially as you are suppossed to be so chummy with one another, then more and more questions will be asked!!

We Know that Fulop is a quality 'keeper but does anyone else think that Keano is bringing him in to get a Hungarian "thing" going on? Is Priskin unhappy at Ipswich? Maybe Keano knows something about Priskin that we don't.....

It's amazing how one player can change the dynamics.
Without him relegation fears, with him place off place.
Like everyone I really hope Keane and Marcus Evans can pull this off.

'Can we have chops with that?' If this happens I'll be really looking forward to this season.

NW10_Tractor -

I don't think so mate, Keano knows as much as we do that Priskin is Sh*t.
watched him in a couple of friendlies already and just looks like hes here for the Money and doesn't want to play for the club. wasn't he reported on saying when he was on loan at QPR last year as he wanted to stay there and would be happy with a transfer?
Well maybe it's just me but if a player is quoted at saying something like that when actually employed by another then it's crystal clear he doesn't want to be here and that is showing in the games he's played since.
i say offload, blood some of the youngesters. Hopefully if we do get Chops i can see him and a couple of our young boys i.e. Wickham and whoever not only getting plenty of experiance but actually shinning in this league.

thats just my opinion though.....

Keane has said all along he wants chopra in a town shirt. It comes down to S Clegg and M Evans. If they fcuk up this deal once again he won't come to Ipswich thats for sure. Clegg you must do everything you can to sign chopra stop being tight he is what Town desperatly need. If we fail to get him and we start poorly you will deserve to get alot of stick for not doing your upmost to bring in the players. In all fairness keane has tried hard to do his bit which he deserves credit for!

I'm really not taking much notice of the "Chopra" saga anymore, I'll wait until he's signed....... Then I'll start to get excited!!

I'm with suffolk n good on this one - it's dragged far too long to even bother with, until something happens.
My only concern would be whether keane has a plan b if we fail with chopra? It's quite easy to be cynical and say how there can't be many other available strikers that are ex-Sunderland/ex-team mates etc, and therefore this is keanes only option.

It's watch and wait on this one as it has been all summer. I personally believe Chops will stay at Cardiff but I hope I am wrong. What is certain though is that we need a striker desperately. Can't rely on Connor and I don't rate Priskin. Does not leave us with much up front does it?

Boring, boring, boring.......!
Lets all wake up and realise it aint ever going to happen......!
This is the press just stiring again to fill a small part of their paper.

Why not go and offer 2.5m for Rickie Lambert or 1.5 for Charlie Austin???

Whole saga reminds me of Magic chasing that plonker from Portsmouth or somewhere, year after year who never came here. Nugent thats it. Situation drags on, nothing happens.

Like I said before. News only please Phil. Stop the heresay and rumour. Facts and facts only. Thats why we are all so frustrated and fed up with the transfer thing.

Help: The main difference was that Magilton agreed the loan of Nugent with Portsmouth, who were happy to let him go... it was Nugent who wouldn't come to Portman Road...
With the Chopra deal it appears its cardiff who won't let him go... not Chopra saying no. (From what was written above that they turned down our offer of £3.75m)... Finances are not good at Cardiff, Chopra is makin sounds like he wants to leave... it could mean the deal could be done. (or not?)
