Keane Confirms Stoke Move for Walters
Keane Confirms Stoke Move for Walters
Thursday, 5th Aug 2010 15:37

Boss Roy Keane has confirmed Stoke City’s interest in skipper Jon Walters, but says the clubs are yet to agree a fee. Yesterday, Walters was linked with a £3 million move to the Britannia Stadium.

The Town manager says talks have been continuing throughout the close season: “We’ve had loads of discussions with Stoke all summer."

Asked whether he thought that Stoke would be successful in their move, Keane said: "If they reach an offer that the owner feels is acceptable, like every other player on the planet. There’s a good chance [that he’ll go]."

The Blues boss says he doesn’t expect the move to be completed for a couple of weeks: “I think he’ll be with us for Saturday.

“I think if anything it’s going to be the next week or two, obviously the Premiership doesn’t start for another week or so and there’s usually fun and games in the negotiations as you’d expect, particularly with certain clubs and certain managers, so I’d expect this one to drag on a little bit longer.

“Jon’s aware of it, but it’s obviously very hard to stop a player when they have the opportunity to play in the Premiership, but the players are also under contract here.”

A number of other clubs are also chasing Walters’s signature, with QPR previously claimed to have had a £2.5 million offer rebuffed by the Blues.

dano24blue; I saw jon Walters at the check out in Tesco'sthat same day , he was arguing with one of the cashiers, apparently they had made a mistake with his club card and he had not picked up any points all season!

Wait for Walters to sign, stoke get relegated in two seasons and Walters is just seen as a nothing player and ends up playing for stockport at age 30 wondering what he has done.

Why is this on here again. It is not news, this is the same as yesterday. I am so bored with the lack of real news. Kennedy must feel great, wait a week mate before we announce your arrival to the press after all you only cost 75k.

At this moment in time we are going to struggle in this league again. i still do not see where goals are coming from until a decent striker arrives at this club.

Q how many games before we get our first 3 points for a win september??

I personally dont think that Walters had performed well for us last season and the season before under Magilton. If we sold him i think a reasonable price would be at least £4.5-£5mil.

I dont think that Walter performed well for us last season and the season before when Magilton was in control but i believe that if Stoke offered £4.5 to £5 mil then i would be happy to let him go to bring in better and younger talent.

Well, I hope Walters goes or stays asap, good, bad or indifferent he was central (not position wise) to the team last season so we need to move on one way or another before te season k.o.

Last season and the season before that i dont think that Walters had performed that well and he did get played most of the time too. I thought that he was our best player but now i dont but if Stoke wanted to buy him then i would ask them for at least £4.5 to £5mill.

Now i think that Edwards and Civelli could do the job better than him
