Keane Wants Two New Signings By Wednesday
Keane Wants Two New Signings By Wednesday

Town manager Roy Keane says he’s hoping to add two new players to his squad before Wednesday. The Blues boss is looking at new attacking additions to his squad with skipper Jon Walters expected to be on his way to Stoke City.

Keane said: “I’d hope to have two new faces at the club by Tuesday or Wednesday because we need them.

“It’s attacking players that we’re looking for as there’s been a lot of speculation about Jon Walters [who is close to joining Stoke] and with Connor Wickham being injured.

“The two or three targets I’m after are attack-minded players, who can hopefully do a little bit of defending. We need them, you saw the bench at Middlesbrough. “

Keane played down links with Wigan Athletic striker Jason Scotland, but reports elsewhere claim the Trinidad and Tobago international is expected to join the Blues today. Cardiff's Ross McCormack is reported to be the other target by the Welsh press.

With Mark Kennedy picking up a hamstring injury, Carlos Edwards suffering a groin problem and Grant Leadbitter and Gareth McAuley complaining of back injuries after Saturday’s game and several players away on international duty this week, Keane will have a somewhat threadbare squad for Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie at Exeter.

“I’ve not even thought about the team for Tuesday, but Carlos will be missing, Gareth, Mark Kennedy, Fülöp and Priskin. My little boy might get a game," joked the Blues boss.

"We’re 24 hours into the season and we’re struggling for numbers, which is shocking really. It’s not good enough for a club like Ipswich and we have to sort it out this week.”

Wideman Edwards looks likely to be out for a few weeks, according to his manager: “When you come off with a groin injury it’ll be more than seven days, especially for boys like Carlos or Reggie whose game is based on speed. When they pull up with something you’re concerned. Carlos did really well, he was a big threat, stretching Middlesbrough.”

Already on the sidelines with injury are Connor Wickham (ankle), Damien Delaney (thigh), Luciano Civelli (knee) and Alan Quinn (groin).

Yes I agree, a right back is needed, but after all the moaning about not signing attackers all summer at least be happy that a couple might arrive.

I thought Civelli might be back by now. Hope it's nothing too serious

Its a pity about Edwards because he had one of his best games for us on Saturday and was a thorn inthe Boro side.

mccormack and scotland would be nice, scotland has a great record in this league and mccormack is very similar to departing walters.
i tend to agree we need more cover at the back.
people bang on about creative midfielder but dont think we need anyone in CM, we need civelli back.

Kean has made it clear several times that he is happy with the RB situation. Why do people keep on about it?

Did Stoke watch us at all last year? Midfield pass back to defence, long ball to Walters, Walters loses it - about twenty to thirty times a game. Walters doesn't want to be here, Mrs Walters certainly doesn't, £3 million - almost as laughable as us getting £4 million for Bramble!
