Leicester Linked With Delaney
Leicester Linked With Delaney
Tuesday, 31st Aug 2010 09:57

Leicester City are interested in Town centre-half Damien Delaney, according to a report in the Midlands. Delaney spent two years with the Foxes at the start of his English career having been bought from hometown club Cork City for £50,000 in 2000.

Leicester are reportedly set to make a £2 million offer for Swansea’s Ashley Williams but if they fail with that bid are said to be ready to turn to Delaney.

The Irishman, who joined Town for £750,000 from QPR in the summer of 2009, has missed the start of the season with a thigh injury suffered in training. Like Connor Wickham and Mark Kennedy, Delaney could be back in the squad after the international break.

Despite Tommy Smith’s excellent performances during the 29-year-old’s absence and loanee Darren O’Dea also being comfortable as a left-sided centre-half, the Blues would be unlikely to sell the 6ft 3in tall defender.

The transfer window closes today at 6pm with Town boss Roy Keane not expecting any more departures or any additions to his squad.

Got a very small squad already. No point in making it smaller.

Depends what the offer is; 1.25 mil, yes please, because as Phil points out we've got Smith and O'Dea as cover at the moment.

Delaney's performances at centre back kept us up last year. Smith is still relatively inexperienced and O'Dea is unproven. Don't sell this year please.

arrange these words in a well known phrase - if not we'll take £3m 'cash'

Keane dont let him go, its all well and good saying we have cover at the moment but if we get a load of injuries what will we do then? Yea we have young lads coming through which is great but they do not have key experience like delaney. Could do with 1 or 2 players coming in on loan i feel just to take pressure off our young guns

Unless it was an audacious bid of £3mill+, Keane will not even look at it as an option. He was, as previously pointed out, one of the reasons we are in the Championship still this year!

Can't see Keane entertaining that for a second, and hopefully neither will Clegg.

No thanks! I'd want at least what we got for Walters. He was mocked a year ago but proved us wrong and became a key player for us.

A top player and one of the best CB`s in this league. Dont sell for any less than at least 2 mill. In fact who would we get better for 2 mill ? No one .

No thanks. I say yes only if Leicester offer us stupid amount of money. If they can offer a £2 million Ashley Williams Delaney should costs twice as much...

The Foxes can keep their mucky paws off him.

Sorry, I'll get my coat.

No thanks! The squad needs one or two new players. O'Dea is only a loanee, also the money could not be used until January.

This has to be a wind up ! We do not need to entertain such offers as we need him to play his part in our promotion effort ! Why would he think of going to a team with less chance of promotion than us ? If it was to go to the premiership maybe 5-6 million might be a tempter !

Even if we do sell him, the report is right as Smith has looked very comfortable, despite the odd blip, and O'dea can play there as well

still should hang on to him, though
