Town to Renew McPhail Move Next Week
Town to Renew McPhail Move Next Week

Town are likely to renew their attempts to sign Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail on loan when the ‘emergency window’ opens next Tuesday, according to reports in Wales. The Blues are understood to have been trying to get the deal done before the transfer window closed yesterday.

Meanwhile, chief executive Simon Clegg has reiterated that money will be available to manager Roy Keane for strengthening, but that there is not a limitless supply of cash.

Clegg told the club site: "After the excellent start to the season we will continue to cautiously build the squad to fit the vision of the manager within a reasonable budget.

"Any club can simply throw endless amounts of money at the transfer market but firstly it is no guarantee of success and secondly it simply undermines the financial viability of the business.

"We are fortunate to have such a committed and generous owner, but a very high priority for this club is to ensure that we do not get ourselves into the same position we have been in before, a position experienced by other Championship clubs last season and which I fear we will see again in the not so distant future."

Sucro72 do agree with you we need depth, but i would not want to be in Cardiffs position which is a very false one. The risk is if they dont go up they have a very good chance of going under - look at the mess Portsmouth are in...... we have to be clever with loan signings and pick good players that are ready to move on so will put their heart and soul into town and try to win themselves a contract here....... oh and Quinn is still injured so im afraid we cant rely on him but i do think he will when fit do a back up job centre mid:-)

Meekreech, I understand that unfortunately in professional football, business is a big part. I was just saying that I don't like it.

Charlie - of course he's generous. Do you think all the players we've had since he came in AND SAVED THIS CLUB grow on trees? Idiot. It really annoys me how ungrateful/stupid some of our fans are.

Chambers - have you ever said anything positive? We're joint top and you're still moaning that Keane's got things wrong. Another idiot.

bluelady - is there anything that you don't winge about? Its quite conceivable that factors outside Mr Cleggs control prevented anyone of a number of signings from happening, which themselves are nothing more than rumours.
Look at Liverpool, they failed to sign Carlton Cole because West Ham couldn't find a replacement. Do you blame Martin Broughton for that?

Just wondering about Cardiff - if they are close to administration you would have thought they would be anxious to get some cash in before the cut off date or is it the case that they sort of money they could have got for Chopra, McPhail etc. irrelevant in the event of the club going into administration???

are you winging bluerue :-) like i said before it was said lightly wasnt meant to upset anyone. I do understand we need to run this as a business and i also know id rather be us than Cardiff irrespective of where they are now or end up in the league as i think they are playing a very dangerous game spending so much when they clearly are not financially sound. i am actually rather happy with where we are at the moment but i have a sense of humour which clearly to you comes across as a whinge.

It is important to note the loan situation before and after the window. It's all well and good saying 'what's the point of signing the player on loan and paying his wages 2 weeks before a game'. However, before the window closed we could sign a player for half a season or a full season if we wanted. Now, we can only bring a player in for up to 93 days on an emergency loan. So, if we signed McPhail before the Portsmouth match, by my maths he would not be eligible for the Christmas period of games. That's why the deal should have been done BEFORE the window closed!

That said, would be a good addition to the squad.

I know we have to be cautious and not get ripped off by "the journeymen" but i have read many articles from different sources quoting Clegg and one thing that is getting right up my nose at the moment is the impotous of everything is run as a business including the muppet running this country at the moment, everything is cost? not the responsibility of goverment but how much will that cost! and i must state something that is obvious to some but others seem to forget the PRIMARY meaning of ITFC is it is a Football Club with supporters not a business which is expected to make a profit. I have shown faith in Clegg and also Mr Roy Keane and if it is true that there are tensions between Clegg and Keane, as far as i am concerned Clegg can go and get f.....d (same as idiot running this country) because hard working people spend money on football tickets to see stars play for their club not for people with too much money to say we have to be careful what we spend, i hope Evans was as prudent when deciding on how much Clegg will be paid (which i garuantee is a six figure sum a year) if it is true that we have missed some of our transfer targets because of profit then again Clegg needs to go back into business NOT Football!
