Keane Nominated for Manager of the Month
Keane Nominated for Manager of the Month
Friday, 3rd Sep 2010 16:31

Town boss Roy Keane has been nominated for the npower Championship Manager of the Month award for August. The Blues won three and drew one in the league and were victorious in two away Carling Cup ties during what was an injury-hit opening month of the season.

The other three shortlisted bosses are Millwall’s Kenny Jackett, Cardiff’s Dave Jones and Neil Warnock of QPR.

Speaking last week, Keane said he wasn’t particularly concerned about the gong: “If you think I’m interested in individual awards, either as a manager or a player, you clearly don’t know me.”

The last Town manager to win the award was Joe Royle in November 2004. Keane himself won in February and March 2007 when with Sunderland. August’s winner will be announced on Thursday 9th September.

Elsewhere, former Town keeper Andy Marshall, 35, has rejoined Aston Villa on a one-year deal having been released by the Premier League club at the end of last season.

He deserves it after last season. Just hope the curse of the award doesn't arise when we play Portsmouth.

Oh well! If he does win it and we end up losing to QPR and Cardiff, at least we can blame it on the curse.

only Championship side undefeated in league and cup, he should get it but feel it will go to moneybags QPR or Bellamy is the best player ever to have graced the plant Cardiff.

Warnock will probably get it... RK deserves to be in the frame though... who would have thought we would have 10 points after the first 4 fixtures we had? Not many, I suspect... I didn't and I'm an eternal optomist!

Dave Jones ought to win it.
On the face of it he has had a hell of a closed season with the club on the perpetual verge of bankruptcy. Yes a lot is down to the Bellamy deal ... but...like everyone else here I want the curse to hit the other two teams as town play them! :-)

Chamberm you really are adouche bag, you make me laugh with your ridiculous comments, however you are entertaining wallybrain.

So what i the gong is cursed or whatever, who would have thought Roy would be up for manager of the month? I know we are riding the top of the wave but lets enjoy it and roll with it and long may it continue

I am also sydney based by the way to all those Aussie blues, however the lack of football is killing me so back to tthe UK in 3 weeks - boom baby

COME ON YOU BLUES

Personally I think he deserved it much more thsn jones who is busy spending money his club clearly doesn't have. Keane has achieved this with limited resources (albeit due to me + sc tightening the purse strings). That said if its cursed dave jonesneil w take a bow its all yours!!!! Oh and well done big mac last night, you slowly becomming a town legond!

Another balanced quality post from ChambersM......... if there was a gong for negativity the book would be closed. In the 2 months I've been viewing TWTD I don't remember a positive post. When having a bad day its just the tonic to make me realise that lifes not that bad afterall.

A nomination RK has deserved on our unexpectedly good start this season. I'd be disappointed if Jones won, as the business ethics of Cardiff really don't sit right with me, but you couldn't argue with any of the other three winning.

The question is how RK deals with the inevitable 'blip' and dip in form when it comes. That may ultimately define the success or failure of his reign...

I agree with ChumbersM, this award is more or less meaningless. Also because you can peak one month and then hit the ropes next. It's the whole season that
counts in manager's job. Theoretically if you go 2-1-1 (or 4-0-2 when there's more matches in a month) all season, you wouldn't probably win any manager of the months, but you would win the league many seasons.
But here's hoping that Roy wins the manager of the month for September...
