Platini to Write Foreword for Town Book

UEFA president Michel Platini has agreed to write a foreword to the new book about the Blues’ finest ever campaign, 1980-81 The Greatest Season in Ipswich Town’s History. Written by the club’s former PRO, Mel Henderson, the book is due to be published in November.

French legend Platini, who played against the Blues during that season for St Etienne, was happy to contribute: “As someone who witnessed Ipswich Town’s stylish approach at first hand I am proud and privileged to have been asked to pen the foreword to this celebratory publication.”

Neil Prentice from publishers White Space Design is delighted that the three times European Player of the Year has agreed to be involved: “Michel Platini was our very ambitious first choice to provide the foreword to this book. We are really pleased that he has agreed and I think this adds real prestige to the publication.”

Supporters pre-ordering by 30th September are being offered the chance to have their names listed in the book, which looks in exceptional depth at the season in which Town won the UEFA Cup and just missed out on a treble.

The first 1,981 copies of 1980-81 The Greatest Season in Ipswich Town’s History, which features interviews with all the players, Sir Bobby Robson and Bobby Ferguson, as well as Mick Mills’s top ten matches and top ten goals from the season, are being produced with a commemorative Sir Bobby Robson sleeve.

I go to France qiute a lot and the father in law lives quite close to St Etienne and its amazing , or not, that although they remember the Platini Tigana team they dont remember being beaten by us. Mind you they are a bit like that about Waterloo and Agincourt.

The French do tend to live in denial, most of them still think that the French resistance won the Second World War!!! lol

How fantastic if we had won the treble that year.
I think the last 29 years would have been a different story....

I bet he doesn't mention that John Wark had him in his pocket for two games! Oh those were the days. Going to school and taking the mick out of my mates who supported the so called big London clubs who were crap, while the mighty Town were rampaging through the league and europe and winning week in week out with one of the greatest teams ever put together.....now those were the days!

That 4-1 win at St. Etienne still remains the best performance I have ever seen from Town.

The 3-1 second leg win over Platini's boys, in March 1981, was my first ever visit to Portman Road as a 9 year old.
To think, that St Etienne side had a good chunk of the France team, that came 4th in the World Cup in Spain a year later
