Civelli: My Knee's Perfect Now to Get Fit
Civelli: My Knee's Perfect Now to Get Fit
Wednesday, 15th Sep 2010 23:59

Midfielder Luciano Civelli says the knee which has kept him out of action for 18 months is now "perfect" but says he is still a little way off a return to the first team. Civelli played 75 minutes of Wednesday's 3-1 reserves defeat to Colchester at Maldon.

The 23-year-old Argentinian has been out of action since damaging ligaments in the 1-1 draw with Burnley in March 2009 but says the knee is now fine: “I am not happy with my performance. I know I have got to do better with the ball and will have to work hard on my fitness, but the most important thing is my knee feels perfect.

“Of course I want to get back in the first team, but I’ve been out for a long time and may have to be patient a little longer.”

Town's next Totesport.com Combination East Division fixture isn't until October 12th when they travel to Southend, but the Blues are likely to organise a number of reserves friendlies before then to give Civelli and Damien Delaney further games as they work on their fitness after their injuries.

Its a great shame about Civelli. There was so much promise when he first arrived but this has gradually faded away. I hope he can get back to his best....afterall we did spend a lot of money on him and he should be one of our top players. Not a great result against Colchester Reserves....

He has been so unlucky with injuries. Playing 75 minutes must mean he is getting back into shape a little bit. Poor result against Colchester Reserves.

As said a lot of promise, he has cost the club a lot of money, not the lads fault, however it sound to me that he is making excusise, i know he has been out for along time but he should at least be on the bench by now.

How's he "making excuses", Karlosfandangal? He's been out of action since March 2009 and has barely played any minutes at any level for a long time. Of course he's going to be rusty and need to build his fitness up.

Think this is confidence as much as anything. Would rather a christmas firing on all cylinders return rather than coming back too early and totally loosing his mojo!

Hope he gets fully fit,but i dont think he will be up to the standard we need if we are to achieve promotion ,its too tough a league to carry passengers .

He is making excuses by saying not really ready yet. The reserves have no more matches till mid October now so do we need to give him more time as he has had another 3 weeks off so lets say he might be fit for December.

He shpould be saying get me on the bench I want to play it should be Keane saying he is not ready remember what Keane said its all in the lads head.

He need to go for it Wickham is still rusty and so will Delaney but they will step up to the mark as did Kennedy, even through they have not been out for so long.

Do you want to play for town or not

Until you rupture you're cruciate knee ligament you are in no position to judge when he should be back.

Karlosfandangal, I think you have a very simplistic view on things and player's recovering from long term injuries.

Karlos, you are an idiot who hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. Crawl back under wherever you came from.

I think this is really positive news and pray there are no more setbacks. Good luck Luciano, hope you're back firing on all cylinders soon.

Just keep the head down and work hard and you will be back and hopefully with style

Time for him to stop talking and get fit and back in the squad. Having had the same Op it is difficult not to think it will happen again, if it does in his mind it's the end of his career, Keanes right it's now a mental thing, get him down to the shrinks Roy & sorted out!

But isn't he trying to get fit now and playing games - isn't that what you want him to do? It doesn't happen overnight in getting match fit again and I am sure you'll be the first to slate him if he was put straight into the first team and didn't perform!

Give the guy a break, he's progressing in the right direction and that's all we can surely ask?

Keep away from Keane during the five-a-side games or you will get the other knee "sorted" !!!!

Clearly you've never played the game Karlosfandangal.

To be out for 18 months means he hasnt even kicked a ball in probably 16 of those. Do you know what happens when you dont do something for that long? You lose it and it takes a hell of long time to get yourself right physically and more importantly mentally.
