Keane Disappointed With Sousa Sacking
Keane Disappointed With Sousa Sacking
Saturday, 2nd Oct 2010 09:21

Town boss Roy Keane has expressed his disappointment at Leicester’s sacking of manager Paulo Sousa just nine games into the season. Keane says he was lucky that he was given that chance to get things right at Portman Road after the Blues’ similarly poor start a year ago.

Keane says he gets on well with Sousa, who was appointed the boss at the Walkers Stadium only three months ago: “I’m very disappointed. I think he’s a really good manager and I’ve got a lot of time for him.

“It’s unfortunate, but we all know that managers don’t seem to get that extra bit of time to turn things around.

“The players there need to look at themselves, he’s a good man and a good manager. It’s unfortunate that he’s lost his job but football is that type of industry, it’s very cold.

“I was disappointed to hear that news this morning. I came up against him a few times last year and he seemed a really good bloke. We wish him well."

Leicester are currently bottom of the Championship, a position Town found themselves at this stage last season and Keane says he was fortunate that those in charge at Portman Road took a less hasty approach: “I was lucky last year when we had a really poor start, so you need a break from the people you’re working with.

“I’ve been very lucky all my life, people have always have tended to give me that extra bit of breathing space and time to get it right.

“I was fortunate last year because the way we started the season there was pressure that I could have lost my job.

“But having said that, I think the people that run this club and the owner are intelligent people. I think they knew it was right to keep me in a job.”

Asked whether he was thinks he can bring success to Town this season having been given that time to turn things around, Keane was in no doubt: “You bet your life I do.”

What else do you expect from Mandaric he has done it many times before so any sane manager will fight shy ( or will they ? ) of going there . Eriksson will show his silly side if he goes !

I thought Sousa and Manderik or watever his name is were best friends.

Not beating Norwich is a sacking offense at any time!
however it is wrong to sack people early, however its Milan fault for employing Sousa. His record was rubbish before he got the job. failed at QPR, ans managed to turn a great team at Swansea into flops at the end of last season.

I think Sousa had his work cut out for him as Leicester clearly over achieved last season with a more direct style that Sousa doesnt use , plus Mandaric is not exactly the king of patience. Sousa is not a bad manager and was unlucky to be outed from QPR whose supporters rated him.

of course he should have been sacked after 9 games "keane that is" if we had got rid of him and got qpr's manager we would be up now. obviously leicester take their football serious

sousa's sacking is nothing short of unbelievable... i read a statistic that said leicester have had something like 14 managers since 2004... we were right last season to keep RK and i think leicester may regret their decision...

Maybe Leicester are challenging QPR for the most sacks.

A win today hopefully and a naarwich lose. It werid seeing their name above ours int he league. - That needs sorting.

I've been on the fence about Keane for a while and I will always support him whilst he manages my team. However, I can see why some don't have faith him and I've said since the season started that if we are not looking good for the play offs after 12 games then it's time to look elsewhere.

Just because someone vents their frustrations on here doesn't mean they don't support or get behind the team.

As for Sousa, he has never impressed me but he'll bounce back. If Bryan Robson can still get work there's hope for every manager in the world!

You are badly named as you seem to be , from youre posts , someone who does not know anything about Suffolk and its people ! You appear to have been brought up and educated ( I use that term loosely ) in an area of less than normal intelligence so you should return to that area north of Suffolk you seem to favour !!! Warnock is only good in that he bought all the available players he could with the money supplied by less than reputable owners .
