Police are reviewing video footage of an incident involving around 40 Leeds supporters 15 minutes after Saturday’s game at Portman Road. Officers were forced to use dogs to control the group which was trying to force its way from the Leeds coaches in the Cattle Market car park back on to Portman Road.

A police spokesman: “Unfortunately there was an incident after the match where a group of around 30-40 away fans congregated and started to behave in a threatening manner towards other fans and the police.

“Police dogs were called in to support officers already on scene and the group was contained. Officers who attend football matches are aware that these situations can arise and it was dealt with quickly and professionally.

“The vast majority of fans were able to enjoy a good day out and a good game of football.”

Five arrests were made during the afternoon, while 27 supporters of either club were ejected from the ground.

During the second half of the game, which the Blues won 2-1, stand-in Town skipper Grant Leadbitter appeared to be hit by an object - reportedly a lighter - thrown from the Leeds section.

The last time the sides met, at Elland Road at the end of the 2006/07 season, the game was held up for 30 minutes after Leeds fans staged a pitch invasion and threw coins and other missiles at Town’s travelling support. Blues striker Alan Lee had all but confirmed the Whites' relegation to League One with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

bluechick added 13:48 - Oct 6 Why don't you all complain to the police abot their handling of the leeds support at the end of the game instead of whinging about it on here? Also write to the club about the total lack of a cohesive policy for away fans. As for the club don't want to keep fans in the ground - what about Norwich every year?
