Keane Not Looking for Assistant
Keane Not Looking for Assistant
Friday, 22nd Oct 2010 15:19

Blues boss Roy Keane says he’s not currently looking to add an assistant manager to his backroom staff. Keane was looking for a deputy in the summer but with new Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers understood to be his number one target, called off his search in pre-season.

The Town boss says that position hasn’t changed, although he isn’t ruling out a change of heart at a later date: “Not at the moment, but I don’t have my head in the sand and if there is a person out there that I think can help take the club forward [then I’ll bring them in]. I talked to one or two people over the summer but it didn’t pan out.”

Keane says that despite the recent back-to-back losses, he isn’t panicking: “After a couple of defeats, I haven’t been getting out my black book and phoning people who I think can come and help us.

“There’s no panic or emergency. We don’t like losing football matches, but I think it’s the first time in a long while that we’ve lost two in a row.

“We don’t like it, but I’ve got great faith in the staff and I have with me and we need to do a slightly better job.”

Keane admits that he may have made errors at Watford: “We made changes the other night and sometimes it’s not about the players getting it wrong, it’s about the manager and the staff getting it wrong.

“We never shy away from that and maybe we got it wrong the other night and on Saturday."

"It’s not just about the players doing their jobs properly, it’s about the manager doing his job properly and I’d have to say looking at the last week, I haven’t done it well enough.

“But there’s always another game. In terms of an away game we couldn’t have picked a tougher one because Forest are very, very strong and I still think they’ll be in the mix right at the end of the season.”

Typical Keano. First he is, then he isn't. Then he is again and now he isn't. Stay tuned to TWTD fans for an update in a few months. If Roy is still here that is....

Rather pointless looking for an Assistant at this stage...if our form in the new year leads to him getting a new contract then we can look at the question again.

The new manager will probably want to appointment his own assistant. The question is how long do we have to wait?

Why would we want to get rid of Keane!!!!!!! if we are 15 come the end of the season then yes but as we are in place for a play off place and doing better than last year, do not see the point.

How many calling for Keanes head were calling for Magiltons head and will be calling for the next managers head.
Joe Royal was the wrong choise as well and the fans called for Robsons head when he first strated.
Come to think of it they called for Burley head when we got relegated and now some say he is the man to lead us back.
Crystal Palce in the bottom three and with half of our rejects!!!!!

He should take his time and get the right man in, a good assistant can have a massive effect on the team.

mmmm, Strange one that? I personally think he needs an experienced assistant to help him with tactics, attracting good players, and more importantly experience. Maybe Keane is saving towns money if we don't finish in the top six this year there will be a very good chance his contract won't be renewed.

mr keane could do with a mentor rather than an assistant.perhaps the club might look at getting a experienced manager in and placing mr keane into a subordinate role for 6 months so he might acquire the suitable experience and level of skills

Agree with Roy - 8th in the league. No panic. And as others say IF it should get worse then he'll PROBABLY go anyway, so for now see where the next few weeks take us.
