Norris Defends Keane's Management
Norris Defends Keane's Management
Thursday, 11th Nov 2010 15:45

Town skipper David Norris has defended Roy Keane's management style in the wake of Jon Walters’s criticism earlier in the week. Walters, who joined Stoke in the summer after falling out with the Town boss, said Keane's players were always walking on “eggshells”.

Norris says he's happy working under the former Manchester United skipper: “I’ve never had a problem with the manager, and he’s been good to me particularly when I was injured for four months last season.

“I’m happy working for him and I enjoy being at Ipswich Town. And I’m looking forward to progressing with this club — and this manager.”

Chief executive Simon Clegg added: “Jon Walters was a great servant to the club but my focus is on supporting the manager and what the players deliver on the pitch.

“The spirit in the camp is good and that’s true, and we’re winning more games than last season. The results of this season speak louder than the words of a player who played last season.”

ChuchmanBlue a voice of sanity.

So here is my pennies worth.

It may not be the best at the moment but there is clearly more spirit in the team this season than last. Can't deny the execution on this pitch could be better.

The 'Supporters' are proving a let down right now. I have sat in the Northstand for nearly 20 years and it has never been so quiet. We all know you can rant and complain on here and if it makes you feel better then so be it. But for goodness sake at least show some vocal support on matchday.

Manager is the past have commented on the noise made by us. No longer do they need to tell there players to quiet the crowd. We provide that as a free service.

Surco - some very good points and some stats that its hard to argue against. My memory is poor and although my gut feeling is that we havent improved in terms of league standings in Keanes time, your stats back this up. And thats despite all the money being spent.
Plus I also feel that the quality of football and entertainment is a fair bit lower too (although admitedly this is something that you cant easily measure).
And to the people that cite this season being an improvement on last season, that is not a great arguement - Keane took us many steps back in his first season and virtually left no else to go other than to improve on that.

Tighest defence we have had in years, and the most goals against in the top half of the league. Come on folks. 89.2% of stats are made up on the spot to make whatever argument you want to put forward seem factual.

Rightly so JM got moaned at for square pegs and round holes and one up front, just as RK is. As a fan of any team you want to win, you exepct to win, you hope to win, and then you see your side play bad. you expect, hope, wish that the manager the only one who can change that to do something that sees your side turn it around. A tactical change of some description that gives you hope.

But more often then not RK's team selection has been worrying, substitutions do not effect the game, tactics are wrong. Yes we are seventh, goal difference and all that. But lets be realistic what you see on the pitch week in week out is not good enough to get us into the premiership and that is the simple fact.

Someone on another thread said we will hammer Barnsley on Saturday. Ipswich will not hammer anyone this season. We will win by one goal, sometimes even two. We will lose by one goal or even 3, but we will not be beaten heavily and we will not score many. That is what you will get with RK's Ipswich

I am sorry to say that only by giving the team our support will they achieve the results we and they are expecting this year ! By continually carping about style and results this feeds back to the players and gives them the wrong feelings which , in my mind , affects their play ! I still feel that this side is still a work in progress and will later in this season produce some more worthy ITFC type football and results ! The team is still finding its feet and its best partnerships on the field and to me when it does it will stick a few goals on some of the others , starting with the northern lot , to prove they are good enough to play for ITFC !

I don't see why Walters can't just move on. We all have here and as has Keane I'm sure. He's at the club of his dreams (LOL!) and I thought he had a little more class than this. Please move on Jon and when some reporter asks for a bit more gossip on a quiet day at the office, just ignore him. You'll get far more respect that way, although on saying that it's a bit too late to redeem yourself in my book. I know some people will argue that he is perfectly entitled to voice his opinion and as a former captain his assessment of Keane is of great interest. But still, I'd rather Walters just butted out, rather than trying to stir up more commotion and unsettle the dressing room. Pathetic behaviour (points scoring as Jeremy Vile would say) imo.
