Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Sunday, 28th Nov 2010 16:29

Town boss felt his team was made to pay for poor decision making after the 4-1 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road. Keane refused to criticise referee Keith Hill for Grant Holt’s controversial first goal or Damien Delaney’s red card just before half-time.

Keane said: “Poor decision-making and giving teams a helping hand has cost us. It was a long second half and it was very hard for us to get back into it. We took a bit of a gamble in the last 15 or 20 minutes and we opened the door to conceding more goals.

“It doesn’t matter what I think about the sending off. Let’s not waste our time and energy talking about whether there was cover, whether he actually pulled him back, the ball should have been cleared, simple as that. Same for the first goal.

“I’m not going to sit here and question the officials, there’s been enough of that over the last few weeks from other managers and other countries.”

The Blues boss felt his players made it difficult for themselves: “In any game of football, whether you’re a professional or an amateur, you’ve got to do the basics right and we didn’t do that today, whether that’s for the first couple of goals or the sending off. You make it very hard for yourself.

“At 2-1, even though we’d gifted two goals away, I think we were very much in the game. It was pretty open, they were causing us problems, but I thought we’d be OK. But then there was the sending off not long before half-time.

“We’re not good enough to be giving away goals like that and to be playing with 10 men. We’ve not won the last few games with 11.

“With 10 it wasn’t impossible because at 2-1 we were keeping it tight and trying to nick something on the break or from a set piece, but it wasn’t to be.”

Keane admits that he’s under pressure after four successive defeat and with the Blues having dropped to 16th but says it comes with the territory: “When you lose matches, it creates pressure but that comes with the job. You know that when you come into it and you’ve got to deal with it.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert was delighted with Canaries hat-trick hero Grant Holt: “I thought Grant was unplayable at times. I thought him and Chris Martin were a handful right from the off and when those two play the way they can do, we’ve always got a chance.”

There is no way the blame should lay with Roy today. Step forward o dea and Delaney. They did not take the derby seriously enough and should have known where row z is!

ME is not interested in ITFC as a footballing entity. He has RK in place because he likes to voice his opinion and can get air time. He bought into ITFC because his business is corporate related and public relations and as the owner he has free use of some of the finest facilities on offer. The only reason that Clegg is involved is his conections to the Olympics as ME is aiming to be involved. ITFC can not afford ME to leave them as we now owe him a hell of a lot more money than we owed when he took over. With these three in charge we are in serious danger of relegation and a L1 side will be of no interest to him.

ITFC ARE FOOKED - Fact while these idiots remain connected to our club!!

We're in a big mess. When you look at the number of loan players, and the number of players out of contract at the end of the season, there is no stability here at all. There's a small handful who are worthy of building a promotion challenge around, but right now there is no 'team' at all. Keane's been 'building' and spending for 18 months and we're on quick-sand.

A big job needs an experienced manager (i.m.o.) Gotta be Curbs. Love the idea of Holland by his side. Curbs interviewed for the England job not long ago (when McClaren got it). Never sacked. Left Charlton middle of the Prem, took West Ham off the bottom and left them middle of the Prem. How we dream of those lofty heights now.

ME why wait any longer??? Why wait til 8 losses out of 11 stretches further??

Norwich are a one man team, without grant holt they are nothing.
As for Ipswich only 4 players stood out today. New signing Gianni Zuiverloon looked very composed, although people will point out the obvious mistake but he recovered well and has every reason to be pleased with his overall performance.
Tommy Smith, was again in fine form at the back, he was very composed, confident and dealt with everything that came his way.
David Norris again was very industrious in midfield, he was part of most attacking moves, he tackled for the team and was everywhere today. He knew what we were playing for.
Tamas Priskin, played his heart out for Ipswich, worked his socks off. He got the service today and he tried very hard to make chances for himself and others. Early in the match when partenered with Scotland, they looked a very menancing threat to the Norwich defence but when he was alone, he found very hard. Sometimes, when he had the ball he was surrounded by at least 6 norwich players and still he did not give up.
Overall, we had the chance to take a point but poor substitutions and tactics from Roy Keane condemned us to a defeat the fans felt more than the players themselves. One question, should keane stay or go? i feel he should stay for the west brom result and then make a decision. COYB

I HAVE back RK for a long time - seeing that rubish today on national TV was an joke. I want him out or i am considering cutting up my season ticket. I go to home and some away and its depressing to watch. GET KEANO OUT NOW BEFORE WE END UP RELEGATED.

What can one say? The defence looked like strangers to each other - in a way I suppose they were! There is no creativity in the middle, no width, no idea of how to create a goal. Pained as I am to say it, if Norwich had worn blue shirts we may have thought they were Ipswich because they played more like we used to.
Perhaps they should just put Keane on gardening leave and get someone else in. May be cheaper than getting shot of him.
Today wasn't just about injuries, sendings off or lack of confidence. It was the result of no one being aware of their role - probably because it is never the same two weeks running. If Keane has a plan can anyone else see it?
Why anyone pays to watch this dross on a regular basis I can't imagine. Surely Evans can see that once spectators stop the habit of attending frequently it's very hard to win them back. That's true of any entertainment business. Mind you - what's on offer at the moment's not entertainment. Silly me thought that we couldn't get much worse than last season's home game against Newcastle. Just show's how wrong you can be!

Danyone actually care about this club, players or management cause having watched the Burley days of building a decent team around the likes of Holland, week in week out players I am at a point now of not renewing next year, its absolute garbage to watch and the players are very average. What annoys me about Keane is this 'we look to give them a run out, or lookto freshen things up a bit" comments - it's not a bloddy hobby or practive match Keane!, sounds like I don't care really, just keep the squad ticking over without making anyone actually work for their money..........a crap attitude and one which I am not going to continue to finance. OK i'll get slagged off for being fair weather, but heh, who cares, pick it up half way through with a ST at Christmas if its going ok, if its dross like now, forget it!. I can take it or leave it cause I ain't getting any entertainment.

Did anyone notice how before Ipswich scored Keane looked to have a sulky look on his face and then after 2-1 it returned again for the rest of the match while just sitting there cross legged. my point is only within the time that Ipswich equalised did Keane come out of the box and show passion and try to orchestrate any kind of team spirit. It was like Keane was waiting for the team to do something good for him to start caring and become enthused. to me thats like an adult sulking towards one of there kids... something that should'nt be done and where YOU have to be the person setting the example.. never the other way around. For me i think team spirit and confidence are far more important than ability.. thats how lesser teams are able to beat bigger teams and those two factors within this team is at an all time low.

It's all well and good some of you on here saying that some of the blame lays at the players' doors. True. But there is one person in the changing room, and in the days building up to the game that is responsible for motivating them, for making them realise how much of a big occasion this fixture is etc....and that is the manager!

I fully accept that O'dea and Delaney made two very silly mistakes that ultimately cost us. But if this was because they weren't taking the occasion seriously enough, then yes they are to blame, but so is the manager for not making them in the right frame of mind before the match.

I'm starting to agree with people on here about ME. He certainly can't be blamed for what is happening on the pitch, but by not giving us a face to the name I think he is alienating himself from the strong traditions this club stands for.

Off to bed, and hoping to wake up to Sky Sports News reading the following headline......

"Roy Keane sacked by Ipswich...................Jose Mourinho registers interest."

Hey it's a nice dream to have overnight isn't it!

For all those RK lovers who say " get behind the club " and " you don't support the club if you aren't beind the manager ' just remember .....If your boss is a total loser and doesn't know how to do his job ...please get behind him today and give him your 100 % support ...not only today but everyday ...because if you aren't doing that then you don't support the hand that feeds you !!

Time for change - and that comes from someone who has backed Roy Keane before yesterdays debacle - Curbishley and Holland sounds a great idea.

Watched the match on TV . Priskin at least was allowed to play for a change. Defence looked nervous and shaky . Keane's tactics are poor . He has had long enough . Time for him to WALK .

When Keane arrived we gave up trying to play good passing football and turned to the more traditional skills of hard tackling, holding up the ball, tight defending, a game which Keane knows inside out. After 18 months, then, you'd expect his side to at least be effective at doing that. Inept is the word.

I have sat on the fence for too long. I want one thing and one thing only,- Keane out now! I don't care about the West Bromwich game,- our team were humiated on live TV all around the world by our arch rivals. Our recent results have been nothing short of shocking, and we play dreadful football.
The positives- Fulop, Smith, Guiverloon (apart from an awful moment), Priskin seemed to be up for it (feel saddened and ashamed that our goalkeeper was good and we lost the game 4-1...). We played a 20% passing football.
The negatives- We played 80% longball. When Scotland came off, Priskin was isolated and alone. Our defence was absolutely atrocious at times and left Fulop far too exposed. Tactics were inept from start to finish. Heart wasn't there (THIS WAS A DERBY!!!) Guiverloon looked confused about where he should play...(Delaney seemed to be at rightback most of the match-until his dismissal..). We were outplayed, outgunned and are now staring relegation in the face.

Don't think anyone could turn this team around-they all enjoy hoofball too much. A true passer like Curbishley would have to buy in a brand new team.
Keane Out!

Very few opportunities to watch Town, now that I live in France, last game seen was V NUFC, First few seasons under Bobby Robson Town were iffy, but never as inept as they seem to be now, wish i knew what the answer was, but I dont think sacking RK is it. Are all these posts asking for his removal from the same"supporters" who screamed for Sir BR removal? Never mind bounce back with a win V Chelsea, probably the next opportunity for me to see Town COYB

Deeply disappointed but I still back Keane...just. The defending at times was awful but I think we should point the finger at the defenders who made those errors rather than Keane. That said, the next month may be crucial for RK's future at the club.

I no NO one is happy atm, but booing and cheering the opposition will not help! HOW ABOUT for every game (until keane is gone or there is an amazing improvement in performance) I suggest we all wait outside the ground for about 1-2 min after kick off then go inside and support our team!

Keane has had long enough and things are no better than last year FORK COYB!!!!!

Enough - take yer 'Coaching staff'?? with you - We are so tactically clueless - No one seemed to have a clue - but then with Colback and Edwards playing in defence I am surprised - still so hacked off with the whole shambles - And as for keeping O Connor and Civelli on bench when width was what was and is needed !!! I can only assume Townshend has seen right through Keane - Oh and it was interesting that pre game Matty H talked about players 'missing injured' and not one mention of a certain CW ? Keane will be gone sooner rather than later

bluelady added 09:13 - Nov 29
Keanish im with you, couldnt believe that post about Curbs, he plays football!!! Also it is very difficult normally to score against a side down to 10 men as they shut up shop ajd close in more on the opposition - so the worse position would have been to stay at 2-1 down. However no we just turned it into a panto and let holt take the lead! mind you he should have been sent off for that awful tackle in the first few minutes, much more a red than Delanys as Holt isnt that fast and we had two racing down the wing to cut his run off. He made a meal of it, but Delany should never had allowd that situation to arise. Im waffling a bit, simply because i truely am lost for words!!! so in summary, Keane you are the weakest link GOODBYE!
