Pablo Loan to Be Cut Short?
Pablo Loan to Be Cut Short?
Wednesday, 22nd Dec 2010 09:36

Crystal Palace could look to cut Town frontman Pablo Couñago’s season-long loan short, according to a report in London. The Spanish striker has scored only twice in 11 starts and six sub appearances since moving to Selhurst Park in August.

The 31-year-old is due to remain with George Burley’s Eagles until the end of his Town contract in June and the Blues are unlikely to want him to return. Manager Roy Keane has already said he’ll be looking for new additions to his striking ranks when the transfer window opens in January.

Meanwhile, Real Zaragoza manager Javier Aguirre wants to sign former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos from Spurs in January: "Gio could be a very important part of my plans," said the La Liga club's boss.

It's true that Pablo will never play again under Keane. He does have that extra bit of magic & flair. The same reason Priskin won't be seen again, despite being man of the match for a record number of consecutive games on here but we're just fans, so we don't know anything about football. To gain RK's respect, you have to be able to run all day and hoof the ball.

svendust- How on earth you can compare him with Zola or Dicanio is beyond belief ok he has had a few good twists and turns but how many times has he done more harm than good? Does not track back, not interested when cold, never plays well away, gets boooked a lot, does not score enough goals but hey good player should bring him back!

Pablo instead of Priskin?

Liked Pablo some great memories and when on song he was brilliant, but he has had his day and I feel for the money he is on it is the right thing to let him go.

Pablo returning will not make us in to a side pushing for the play off, need to use his wages towards a new striker

So Pablo will never play under Keane, so if he is coming back should be in the team by the New Year. Also for all slating him for being lazy we also have to remember we cannot afford to have a team of world beaters on the bench so maybe if Pabs would take a hit on wages a new contract would not be such a bad thing. When he is on song should be in first 11 every week if not rate Pablo or not most cannot disagree he has the ability to transform a game from the bench.
As for slating Priskin personally have thought he looks better each game, so what does our all knowing Manager do ............... I seem to remember the same Manager saying he needs games he is a confidence player etc etc
Keane out Pablo in

"With a bit of pace and more consistency he could have been as good as Zola or Di Canio. "

Some of the comments are brilliant on here. I think the fella on the first page summed it up when he said the continued faith in players like him are a reason why Town haven't been in the top flight for 10 years.

Get over it. Living on former glories and having a misplaced "big club" mentality isn't getting getting us anywhere.

Renoble, just like Roy keane, just like Simon clegg and just like so many others you simply don't get it. I genuinely pity you.

Very few of the town fans that argue the case for the likes of Pablo have a big club mentality. Far from it. Neither are we living on past glories. Christ knows that most of us under the age of 40 have little or no memories of town's genuine glory days, with the pain of relegation and play off failure being a much greater element of our Town memories.

What may be more appropriate is to be accused of having a small club mentality. We want to rid the club of the misplaced and damaging theory that 'character' and bluster will somehow get the club where it needs to be. The only reason that anyone in my age bracket harks back to days gone by is that history shows that at times when a family ethos and stylish football have been at the fore, we have had our few tastes of success. And if you think that this is an outdated concept, just ask blackout fans what they think. Whilst you're at it you might want to ask fans from swans and monastery too.

It's clear to anyone with an iota of foresight that if we continue down the road we are on, we are looking at a very bleak and boring future. Pablo may not have the sort of 'character' that Roy keane and his blind followers endorse, but if you define character as technical excellence, creativity and a stubborn belief in your own ability then he has bags of it. It's just a damn shame you can't see that. For the sake of both our club's future and the heritage you seem keen to dismiss, let's hope you get with it and wake Roy and Simon up too.

Undoubtedly, there is still a place at Ipswich Town for Pablo, at least until the end of the season.
(Rumours of Kevin Lisbie's return are also rife). Noticeably, both players have impressed considerably at their loan clubs- most Millwall and Palace fans want these players to stay and the Palace boards have been blitzed by supporters saying <What is going on?>
Lisbie and Counago in January would be good for our team. Yes, they are not great goal scorers anymore but they do offer different dimensions to our team and give the opposition more to consider before a game. At the moment, other teams can guess our tactics and guess the players who will be playing them with great accuracy. Add Lisbie and Counago to the mix and defenders won't know whether they are dealing with Fallon, Wickham, Murray, Scotland, Priskin, Counago or Lisbie on match day. Lisbie is good in the air and offers a different threat to Counago (who still has creativity and his clever twists and turns).
When Wickham goes in January,- I would like to see the money used on a left back and right back rather than a new striker. If we have Counago and Lisbie back- this could well be the case. Eastman and Civelli could then get experience on loan and in the new year (hopefully) O'Connor can get a few games.
Competiton for places would also increase with the return of these two. I feel though that Keane would need to sit with them both for a while and have a clear chat about what he expects from them and what will happen to them if they don't cut the mustard.
Still feel that these 2 maestro's have a part to play in the future of Ipswich Town. Lisbie in particular would combine well with Fallon (who seems to enjoy putting the quick high balls into the area). We shouldn't write any of our players off.
As for Fallon,-earlier suggestions were that he was like a headless chicken and reminded people of Adrian Paz. I have been impressed with his start and think he is nothing like Paz (who only came to life once at Town when we were 3-0 down at home to Liverpool and he scored a wonder-goal). Paz started badly and was generally bad (but came with fame and reputation). Fallon came with no expectations but seems to be competing for his place in the team.

A sensible post from rkeanisagod with a well reasoned argument. Churchmans on the other hand clearly lacks the ability to reason. Perhaps the reason he doesn't want to read my point of view is reflected in the poorly thrown together string of illiteracy above....he can't.

No-one on here has said Pablo is a 20 goal a season man. To paraphrase churchmans, "he ain't". Given a consistent run in the team, he may just help someone else be that man (e.g. Scotland).

Regardless, he has at times been a pleasure to watch and I see no reason to waste time sagging him off. If we had just a few more 'players' and a few less 'characters' maybe we would get somewhere.

Would those who can't read like me to rephrase my comment in a more negative manner to get the point accross?

How about:

'Pablo very occasionally showed us great skill and technique but it was once in a blue moon and he is as fast as my tortoise'

If he could reproduce the moments of brilliance I mentioned in my original post every match and if he had some pace he would have been as good as Zola or Di Canio. That doesn't mean I'm saying he IS/WAS as good as Zola or Di Canio, that means he COULD HAVE BEEN.

Is that a bit clearer for you?

"but if you define character as technical excellence, creativity and a stubborn belief in your own ability then he has bags of it"

When did he display this over a prolonged period of time? Not at Palace, not at town, not in Spain. Shall I go on?
