Keane Exit Confirmed
Keane Exit Confirmed
Friday, 7th Jan 2011 11:20

Town have confirmed that manager Roy Keane's contract as been "amicably terminated" after 20 months in charge at Portman Road. The Blues boss had been under pressure for some weeks after Town’s plummet down the table to 19th after a good start to the season had seen them reach second.

Chief executive Simon Clegg made the announcement at a press conference at Portman Road this morning and said that no new appointment will be made before the match against Chelsea.

Coach Ian 'Charlie' McParland will be in charge while the club speak to a number of potential new managers with Clegg emphasising that the new manager not as yet decided.

In a press release owner Marcus Evans said: “I would like to put on record my thanks to Roy for his commitment to try and bring success to Ipswich Town Football Club during his time at Portman Road. I would like to wish him every success for the future.”

Clegg added: “Today is a sad day for me. I have enjoyed working with Roy over the past two seasons and I would like to thank him for his tremendous dedication and professionalism during that period.

"Regrettably though, we have not made the progress that we had all expected over the last 20 months and this season in particular with the side slipping to 19th place in the Championship table.”

I would take either:

Jewell,
Curbishley + Holland,
O'Driscoll,
Poyet and Tauricco.

Out of those please, and nothing else.

RK tried his best, in truth he just wasn't good enough.

Would love to see Hughton but I think he is being lined up for West Ham in the near future.

Jewell it is then.........

Coach remains in situ! That means we will still be treated to suffering the LONG-HIGH UP and UNDER designed to put the other tean under pressure!! (Known in the other code as a GARRYOWEN!)

We'll if it's not a done deal then lets hope they take a little bit of time to select a suitable candidate. Would love to see Chris Houghton or Poyet, why not Martin O'Neill? Jewell looked like a done deal earlier and already everyone is moaning. Whoever it is, give them a chance, we are called supporters for a reason!

As one of those that has been 'on his back' after 6 seconds of his appointment, not 6 months, I am over-joyed that we are now free of this ignorant, violent man. His tenure has been a disaster : only Jackie Milburn did worse. Good riddance : he will never manage another club (hopefully).

Shame it didn't work out. All the best Keano, wherever you end up.

Now we move on. Together. United behind the new manager of Ipswich Town FC.

It is a sad day - to see another manager leave PR. I have not agreed with Keane tactics on many occasion nor the lack of signings, but I think he is being honest in his appraisal of how difficult it is to get people to move to Suffolk.

it makes me laugh - all thew comments about 'We must get behind the new manager - whoever it is' How long will that last - will they get as long as RK (which wasn't long?

Also, responsibility for our position - it is a joint responsibility. RK must take some of the blame, as must a lot of the players who rarely gave 100%, but equally, so must the fans. We have been on RK's back for a long time - how would you like to go to work and have everyone around you moaning about you. Also, PR is like a tomb sometimes - it is only rememberence day we need tio be silent for 1 minute - not 90 minutes every week!! Lets get more noise all around the ground - not just North Stand.

Keane had a long time in position for someone who took the club backwards whilst spending so much money compared to many managers . Football is not like the old days it is a business if the results aren t there changes must be made and this should have happened a long time ago .If a new manager comes in and is equally as bad then they will go too until someone finds the right formula for success . All this a manager needs time rubbish and look how long it took Bobby is outdated .We are living in a results business world and Keane couldnt live up to his own pronounced hype and i think the fans backed him a lot longer than most clubs would have and he turned on them .
When people were saying we dont want to be like QPR constantly sacking their manager , i would love to be in the position they are with the right man in charge and top of the table without spending a great deal more than us over the last two seasons .
Good luck to whoever lets see us playing football again and enjoy going to Portman Road again

a sad day, how the hell can anybody be sad, he was a disaster for this club, just look at where he has left us, right in the proverbial, I for one am truly thankful that he is gone, should never, ever have been allowed anywhere near our club.
Now let's go forward with someone who has some idea of how to run a club, and play some football that might attract some spectators.

A sad day. I really hoped Roy would do the business for us. Loved his character, charisma and honest talking. He will certainly be missed for that. However and inevitably, with poor showings and results on the pitch, ME/Clegg had to take action. Of course some will question the timing - but is there ever a good time?

I hope people will remember - whatever their opinion of Roy - he is still a persone and I hope people will give him some respect. Just imagine if this evening you had to return home to tell your partner/family you had lost your job. I don't think we should revel in this - someone losing their job isn't nice - but alas it's the nature of being a football manager. Time to close this chapter and move on.

All the best Roy.

It's a time of contradictions for me. I'm sad for Roy but ultimately relieved that a decision has been made. I very much wish it could have worked out but things were clearly not working, despite Roy suggesting he could see improvement. I think we need a change of direction and a fresh impetus and I very much hope the players can play with a little more freedom and expression. It is a sad day as it's never nice to see a Town manager go but let's hope that we can make progress between now and the end of the season and bring a few smiles back to Portman Road. Good luck Roy, thanks for trying. It just wasn't meant to be...
