Town Confirm McCarthy Appointment
Town Confirm McCarthy Appointment
Thursday, 13th Jan 2011 15:56

Town have confirmed that, as reported earlier, Paul Jewell’s former Bradford City strike partner Sean McCarthy has joined the new manager's staff as a coach. The 43-year-old has signed a contract until 2013.

McCarthy, who will be in the dug-out alongside Jewell at Millwall on Saturday, met the squad along with the new boss at Playford Road this morning.

While TWTD understands that reserves coach Chris Kiwomya will remain at Portman Road, there is as yet no news on goalkeeping-coach Jim Hollman and fitness coaches Antonio Gomez and Simon Thadani. Roy Keane's first team coaches Tony Loughlan and Charlie McParland have left the club.

In addition to McCarthy, Jewell may make further appointments to his backroom team with his former Bradford, Wigan and Derby assistant Chris Hutchings having been sacked by Walsall earlier this month and newspaper reports linking West Ham coach Wally Downes.

Fabregas appears to be talking about a number of clubs.Perhaps he needs to think about how he plays against it. People need to understand that Jewell will adopt these tactics when required. Recalling his press conference and when asked about his style of play he pretty much said whatever is required to win. Pointless trying to out pass Arsenal last night - yet I didn't think we were all long - ball?

There's more than one type of "long ball" anyway. There's the hoof it up to a big mans head and hope to get lucky with where if falls, or there's the long pass into the space in the channels. I'd say we were more the latter last night. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Welcome Sean may this new town era be a long and successful one. Like others Chris Hutchings or Wally Downes would be fantastic additions to the new ITFC. If we play like we did last night until the end of the season we would be going up.
Ipswich R BACK. :)

2 things...
Don't players say stuff similar to Connor's comments 5 minutes before they leave a club?

Also to get to 74 points (I think more like 71ish as the competition is going to be fierce) we need something like....
15 wins out of 22 (73ish pts) plus the odd draw...big mountain to climb.
However 12 wins 7 draws and 4 deafeats (winning just over half the games left) would put us on 71 points. This would have been enough in two out of the last 3 years. Now I know I am a sad table watching dreamer and it's all about winning on saturday but come on everyone, 12 wins out of 22 doesnt seem so bad does it? and if we get 12 wins, 7 draws and 3 defeats from the next 21 games it's all to play for on the last day!!!
COME ON THE BLUES!!
...I know, I am sad...

FABREGAS HAS BEEN GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT THEN....!! READ ON

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger labelled his team ''naive'' with ''no spark or creativity", but Fabregas put the blame on the negative tactics of the opposition.

''I don't know it if it is long ball or it is a rugby kick, but it worked for them,'' Fabregas said. ''In England, a lot of teams play like that and it works for them, they create chances like that and it is their football.

''We just have to put the ball on the floor and try to play football, that is what we do. I can only remember two opportunities for them, but it was from a long, long ball because playing football they could not really get behind us or attack us. It is a bit disappointing because I think we were the much better team.

''Credit to them because they played well, but Arsenal made the football, the other team refused to play football, they were lucky to score with a long ball. But it was one of those nights and now we have to make it at the Emirates in two weeks.''

Fabregas added: ''It is a 1-0, and of course we did not want to lose, but it is not a 3-0 or 4-0 so we are confident at home we can make it back. It is not the same to play at Stamford Bridge as it is to come here.

''Here they play in front of their fans, they are more motivated, the pitch is not as good as Stamford Bridge, so they play their game. They know how to do it and did it very well, so credit to them. Now we will see how they cope at the Emirates against us. We are confident we can do it there.''

Is Leadbitter available for the second leg??? Surely he is??

Grant you have one job in the second leg

Man mark Fabregas and show him what tackles should feel like, after those comments he needs to be roughed up......

I really hope we do them down there, and lets give them a Battle, because the one thing Arsenal hate is a team that gives it to them both barrels just like our boys did last night

Fabregas is in trouble if the town players have read that. Sour grapes, sore loser, un-gracious, he fits all of those! Cesc, you lot played a team that just wanted it more than you so grow up and get over it. I for one will be booing every touch u have at the emirates...

Great move that we have a coach on board who was a good striker. He also played in defence. Can see that we will start to score more goals.

Interesting that Hutchings is out of a job and no appointment here yet. If Grant gets the sack at West Ham can see Wally Downes coming here as PJ's assistant. That would be a shrewd move and a solid backroom staff.

Looking forward to the future. COYB.

Long link I know, but feel free to join me in purchasing a novelty inflatable rugby ball to let off at the Emirates for some tongue in cheek fun!

S0d off Cesc!

Don't understand why so many supporters seem to want Danny Haynes back.
Who's next? Liam Trotter?

Would like to see Hutchings and Downes - both - at PR.
If we are to make any new signings, need to make them soon. Feel we need to at least to attempt to replace Colback and Townsend and have back-up for Jaime Peters at right back.
Lets hope Priskin doesn't go out on-loan. He is starting to build up fan support.
Colin Healy was immense against Arsenal. Shows that he still has it in him, if he puts in that kind of performance every week he deserves a new contract.
And Fulop, magnificent!
