Portsmouth Linked With Norris Move
Portsmouth Linked With Norris Move

Town skipper David Norris is reported to be the subject of a £250,000 offer from fellow Championship strugglers Portsmouth. Norris is one of the 21 players out of contract at the end of the season.

Last week, the former Plymouth man admitted that if his Town future isn't sorted soon, he could talk to other clubs about contracts for next season, something he is allowed to do with less than six months of his current deal remaining.

The 29-year-old said: “I could be out of work in five months’ time so I have to look after myself. I can talk to other clubs if I want and that is a situation that I have to look at.

“Nobody is naïve enough to think that other clubs are not aware of a player's situation and my agent has been taking a few enquiries.”

Alternatively, the Blues could look to cash in on the Peterborough-born midfielder now if he isn't in new manager Paul Jewell's long-term plans.

Norris, who cost Town a fee believed to be in the region of £2 million when he signed from Plymouth in January 2008, was offered a new two-year contract at the end of last year, but despite the ex-Boston and Bolton man stating that he wants to stay with the Blues, a deal is yet to be completed.

Meanwhile, former Town loanee Jack Colback is claimed to be a loan target of Blackpool. The midfielder returned to Sunderland after his latest loan spell with the Blues was cut short earlier this month.

250K?! What a joke! Wouldn't sell him for 4 times that amount.

Garbage surely? £250k is an insult, even if he is out of contract. He's a key player and we are in a relegation battle. £250k isn't going to help us get out of that more than Chuck will!

It's also quite sickening to think that Portsmouth are prepared to offer big wages to players after their recent money problems!

I very much doubt Pompey have offered terms that match us in their situation! David think about your situation, we like you, you like us, nice area and there ain't alot of money around at the moment. Sign up and enjoy the great times ahead under PJ. Cheers

I'm afraid thats all his worth, been a very poor signing, Should have been placed on transfer list a start of the season if he didn't sigin new contract, with 5 months to go you not going to get much for him. Bring a playmaker in.

If this is a 'for real' offer and not just nonsense, it should be turned down and just leave Norris to either go for free at the end of the season or sign his original deal if still on the table. We probably need him to help steady the ship at the moment and like all the other players he has to prove his worth to Paul Jewell. No way should he be waiting on better terms from ITFC - he is just not worth the money we paid for him and the wages, which have hurt the club. Thinking back to the sheer furore and effort to prise him away from Plymouth (and remember too that was a move to get him nearer to family in East of England - he's hardly going to want to go to Pompey, which I agree with others is a dump and almost extinct - the club that were playing well above their station due to financial rule-bending and Joe Jordan 'that was a red' word in 4th official's ear got Liam Trotter sent off by Mark Halsey and cost us the game).

Norris`s fee was inflated because bolton had a 50% sell on clause which meant plymouth got about 1.1 mill and bolton got 1.1 or whatever. But i think something was manipulated between the percentages so plymouth got more and bolton got a decent cut out of thin air, a windfall. But he is on a 3 year contract , with 6 months left and has been injured for about a year out of the 2.5 he has been on our books. He works hard, is a brave grafter but really not much more . Im suprised he is brokering a deal to leave as I really thought he liked playing for us and getting the captaincy. He seems a really nice bloke aswell .
