Jewell Delighted to Secure Dyer Signing
Jewell Delighted to Secure Dyer Signing
Friday, 11th Mar 2011 12:58

Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s delighted to have secured the signing of former Blue Kieron Dyer on loan from West Ham, as first revealed by TWTD this morning. The 32-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, is at Portman Road until April 9th but Jewell says that the former England man could stay for longer if all goes well.

Jewell told the club site: "We're delighted to have Kieron here. He's a wonderful player and will add Premier League quality and experience to the squad.

"He's had his injury problems but he is fit and ready to go, although we will have to look to ease him back into things.

"I'm sure the supporters will be pleased to see Kieron back at the club. We are short on numbers so needed to get someone in and hopefully he can make the same impact here as Jimmy.

"We are short on numbers and had to get someone in. We're obviously delighted it's Kieron and he's here for 28 days. We will see how it goes from there."

Dyer has been handed the number 30 shirt and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's game at Leeds.

This is as exciting a team as we have had for a number of years. When you look at the team on paper with Fulop, Macauley, Delaney, Edwards, Norris, Leadbitter, Bullard, Dyer, Martin, Wickham, Priskin, Scotland we have some serious quality now. Just need to get them all playing with smiles on their faces and we will challenge next season if we can keep the key members (Dyer and Bullard perm, Norris, Delaney and Macauley new deals and keep hold of Connor).

Back Jewell in the summer Mr Evans and you can start to make some money from this club.

This is great. Hope he stays fit, because his quality can only improve us. He's had his problems but he's an Ipswich fan & will certainly give his all for the club.

Sounds good on paper and he's definately a high quality player with an Ipswich heart. My concern will be over his fitness, so jury out whilst fingers and toes crossed!

really not sure...Kieran has had his share of injuries and certainly doesn't have the legs anymore but no doubt his technical ability should beok for this level!

Who's next. Bramble or Hermann.
If KD stays fit could be an answer to our problems if not then the 17 games in 4 years with the Hammers could speak volumes.

Fantastic bit of business by Jewel, hes here for an initial month, sounds like if he stays fit and does well we'll extend it to the end of the season (and who knows maybe even beyond), if not he'll go back. Very little risk and a potentially massive return (scuse the pun).

I am generally against former players returning but I make an exception for Kieran. 36 caps I think he has, imagine how many he would have he if had more luck with injuries!
I remember his England debut under Keegan. He was dynamite and had Kevin raving about him.
Lets hope we are are raving about his return on Saturday!

I think it's a simple 'big name' acquisition that is designed, in the short term, to get the crowds in, and get us a few points on the board and be a spring board for season tickets (and hope) next season.

Dyer had been getting a bit of first team action around Christmas, look okay IIRC, and there's no doubting he has quality, who could possibly add a bit of zing to a faltering campaign, we need something positive short term, and he could well be the answer.

He could of course get injured.

Could be dire news for the budgies if he is still here for the derby match.

Bring Tommy Smith in solidly behind.
Let Leadbitter sharpen himself up in the reserves.
Let's not think about Bramble
Ask John Wark and Arnold Mürhen what they are doing these days
add a couple of Zimmer frames and stand back

And if it does help sell a few more season tickets and puts a few more pounds into the paul Jewell buying pot for next season........how bad ?

Will he stay fit? Will leave after a month? Will cost a lot. I'm sorry, although happy to see a ex-Town player back (although never seen an ex player return and do well - Ambrose, Scowcroft, Kuqi) - I don't honestly think this a fantastic signing. Time will tell. Really hope he does well.

really cant see how anyone can have a problem with this, wont break the bank is for a month only and if he gets injured he goes back. But if he doesnt get injured, we get a quality player, we create more chances, we get more bums on seats which in turn means more money in the summer to spend...... i do think some people need to get over Keane going, as the same few moan about every single move Jewell makes with little argument!

Fantastic to see Mr Dyer back again. I for one think he can do a great job for our football club. Thankyou Mr Jewell.

bluelady - here we go again, just because someone 'makes a comment' about 'what Jewell has done' you call it 'moaning'.
Just buy yourself a dictionary, and check out the meaning of the word please, and then accept than the same few of you do not have such a thing as a balanced view.
It's always biased.

h32. Why dont you get a dictionary, check out the word "supporter", stop this superiority complex you have, stop criticising, SUPPORT the club & be positive like bluelady, myself & others on here you always demean. Go get a life.
