On a day when football is far from most minds UEFA has announced that they will make a decision tomorrow whether to go ahead with matches scheduled for later this week.

This evening's matches went ahead with a minute's silence preceding the kick offs. UEFA Chief Executive Gerhard Aigner said: "UEFA wishes to express its profound sadness and horror at the tragic and terrible events which have taken place today in the United States. Our thoughts and hearts go out to all the victims of these dreadful attacks and our sincerest sympathy to their families and friends. In recognition of these terrible tragedies, UEFA has asked that a one-minute silence be observed at all UEFA club competition games taking place tonight."

He continued: "We would hope that all football fans across Europe will join with us in ensuring that this symbol of sympathy is respected. Tonight’s matches will proceed as scheduled but we will continue to monitor security developments within Europe and will make a further statement tomorrow [Wednesday] morning in relation to the games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday."
