McAuley Agrees Deal as Rangers Linked
McAuley Agrees Deal as Rangers Linked

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Town have agreed terms with central defender Gareth McAuley and that he hopes the Northern Irishman will join Damien Delaney in signing his new deal in the next few days. One of this morning’s tabloids claims next season's Rangers manager Ally McCoist will be at Thursday’s East Anglian derby with Norwich to run the rule over the 31-year-old, but the Town boss says that their interest is news to him.

Jewell said: “We’ve agreed to Gareth McAuley’s agent’s terms and we’re waiting for him to say yes to them. As far as I’m aware everything’s done and hopefully he’ll get it signed.

“I know there’s a story in the papers this morning about him going to Rangers. I don’t know anything about that. As far as I’m concerned we’ve agreed with Gareth and hopefully he’ll get it signed.”

SPL giants Rangers previously targeted the former Lincoln and Leicester man last summer.

Why is Macauley being compared with Bent? It's nonsense.

Bottom line is Macauley has been our best player not just this year but last aswell imo. He's a leader and a quality player who we must keep. Sign him up, sign up Norris while we're at it and protect our assets.

Won't be celebrating until I hear Big Mac say: 'I am delighted to have signed my new contract with Ipswich Town ... '

What "tradition" does McAuley come from in Northern Ireland ?... signing for Rangers is not a "no risk" decision with family back there.

I totally agree with brockleyblueboy,we have got to keep this team together. Add a few more players eg fullback maybe a good keeper and a twenty goal striker and sign J.Bullard. We are not a million miles from where we should be as recent form suggests. Now lets just beat the scum have a good summer and get promoted next year!

50yearsablue i guess your similier to myself. If you did have a great knowlage on football you would not be on this forum and manager of a pro football team instead. We are allowed to voice our comments and views on hear. Alright im not a big fan of mac but a fan of given the youth a chance which i have said all along and said about letting the likes of smith, eastman have a go. Part of me says things to get peaple to bite but there is a bit of truth in there aswell. Mac is 31 and no longer a young man football wise. Is he really of prem / promotion quality. As said why not aim better than what we have.

I think the point many are missing here is that ITFC have agreed to the demands laid down by GMacs agent - 'given him what he wants' per the BBC sport website. Coming after the furore of SC's comments that the Club would not be held to ransom, together with PJs response, suggests to me that PJ has won a mini power battle with the CEO. This possibly bodes well for the future.

If and when GMac signs (and maybe Chuck too) it may well be appropriate to remember PJ's comments about the contract situation and thank God that he had the balls to remind his employers that in football compromise is King; intransigence gets you nowhere but relegation.

Call me an old synic, but I for one won't be happy until they've all signed. Apart from the obvious of what each brings to the table, do we really want another season/s of bedding in, taking time to settle in getting to know their team mates, not for me. As a whole we have a talented bunch who, while not worldbeaters, have begun to work hard as a team and for each other. They are a unit which, IMHO doesn't need messing with.

JTL279 - I have been described in the past as an argumentative drunk, as such, whilst any Scottish role model would suffice (even a picture of your good self, although I'd never claim to be quite that argumentative!), I chose Rab because as well as being argumentative and a drunk, he can also be funny and quite tragic - perfect for me I think you'll agree!

Where as I'm assuming that your use of the Comedian is in some way ironic?!?!?

So is there a Bank Holiday BBQ in the offing next weekend or not...?
