Hodgson Confirms McAuley Interest
Hodgson Confirms McAuley Interest
Thursday, 12th May 2011 16:59

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed his interest in departing Town central defender Gareth McAuley and former Baggie Tomasz Kuszczak, who is currently with Manchester United. On Monday, the Northern Irishman told Blues boss Paul Jewell that he would be moving on when his contract is up at the end of June, with the Hawthorns understood to be his destination.

Hodgson said: "They are players that fall into the West Bromwich Albion category. If those players are available they will certainly be players we'll discuss.

"At the moment all that type of talk is pure speculation and I think there is going to be an awful lot of speculation in the next couple of weeks.

"This is the time when the agents are trying to move their players around and make them attractive to other clubs by supposedly having clubs who are interested in buying them."

Agreed about some comments made when Walters left but Walters was/is a far better player than McAuley ever has been.

bluelady - fair point. But the man has been a rock for us this season - and been treated appallingly by the Club, and some so called supporters with there comments.
Non of which bodes well in attracting other players to the Club, I assure you.

Regencyblue - again fair point - but the point I make is that many on here were slagging Walters off, and stating he was not good enough for the Premiership and would be 'found out' - which any decent judge of a player knew was bo##ocks.

jason0999 - the whole Club is a shambles at the moment - may have to wait until after the Olympics for this all to be assembled and pointed in the right direction again - I wonder what I mean by that !!!!!

No matter what drivel smeghead comes out with the net result is that ITFC are losing two players that would have commanded decent fees for nothing.

He must think we are stupid

Still ME is minted, its his money,he employed smeghead, so why should we care a toss

Didn't agree with those that slagged off Walters and certainly don't agree now its happening again to Mac and Chuck. Whatever your thoughts, all have served the club and deserve a little more respect. Hope none of the players we wish to sign are reading some of these comments, we're not all the same, honest gov'. The vast majority of us will get behind you and appreciate your efforts, and if you decide at some stage to leave [ for whatever reason ] we will wish you well. IMHO

diamondgezzer - i think the only reason walters got slated was because of the way he went about getting the move i.e i want out stuff. i personally hope g.mac makes a go of if but i dont think he will be good enough. as for norris ok player but never a captain and the only reason he is moving on is because of the money.

It's a fact of modern football that players play there contracts out and move on, everyone get over it and move on, as for the we use to have better centre-halfs there is no point living in the past, my first match was the Uefa Cup Final its been all downhill from there but you have to deal with the present, we are a medium sized Championship Club who are very lucky to have a generous benefactor in Mr.Evans, stop crying about GMac and wait to see who we get in!!

Bedsitfc :- re Walters, I was given to understand that the ' I want out stuff ' came as a result of an argument between him and Roy Keene, resulting in an offer being made and accepted.
As for Mac and Chuck, accepting your thoughts on them, I was refering to the posters who were slating them and very few appreciating at least they had done their bit and usually put in a shift, deserving at least a thankyou for their efforts. I know all the arguments about being well paid and should do this and that, but compared to some performances from others we've witnessed this season, I think they have been our better players. Have to agree about leaving for more money, but I guess that's the way of the world. IMHO

Good luck Gareth where ever you ply your trade next season & thanks for helping to keep us in this division, however, the time was right for both ITFC & G M to leave as i believe 3 year contracts for players of this age are asking for trouble. Will be interesting to see the kind of deal he will be offered at WBA or Rangers etc. I also think his lack of pace may well see him found out at a higher level, though would love him to prove me wrong.

Good luck to him. At times a class act but at times an average defender. Wish him luck and am glad he has a shot of the prem. Shame they go on frees but the contract arguement has got boring so we learn a valuable lesson about timing and move on. Looking forward the new improved ipswich!
