McAuley Signs for West Brom
McAuley Signs for West Brom
Friday, 20th May 2011 21:19

TWTD understands that departing Town defender Gareth McAuley signed for Premier League West Bromwich Albion earlier today.

Out-of-contract McAuley, 31, told Blues boss Paul Jewell that he would be moving on on the Monday following the final game of the season at Leicester with West Brom quickly emerging as his destination. Baggies boss Roy Hodgson confirmed his interest last week.

Northern Irishman McAuley joined the Blues from Leicester for a fee of £1.1 million in June 2008 and made 126 starts and one sub appearance, scoring eight goals.

The former Lincoln man was offered a new two-year deal by Town before Christmas but despite continuing to talk to the club in the final months of the season, decided against staying at Portman Road with SPL giants Rangers also showing interest.

Doesn't anyone else on here feel ever so slightly "mugged" as he is able to walk away from Ipswich and us supporters for nothing in return? Fair do's that some of you on here will say "but thats how football and the Bosman works" but considering he's given his heart and soul into the majority of the games he plays and after all of that Keano controversy and the money we paid Leics - Ipswich have made F**K ALL from GMac leaving? SKANKED!!!!

Good riddance Gareth. You were an ok player but when you decided to question other players commitment after Keane was sacked only to announce days later that you'd turned down the contract offer you lost all credibility. Hope you do well at West Brom but doubt you will as you're really not that great.

Can't begrudge him a shot at premier league but i do think that he will not be a success as he does struggle with pacy, skillful strikers.
He has served ITFC well though and wish him all the best
