Town and Forest Eyeing Treacy
Town and Forest Eyeing Treacy
Saturday, 28th May 2011 09:07

Town and Nottingham Forest are showing interest in Preston left winger Keith Treacy, according to reports in Ireland. The 22-year-old is claimed to have already been the subject of an unsuccessful £800,000 bid from Burnley this summer and looks certain to leave the newly-relegated Lilywhites.

The Republic of Ireland international is said to be valued at around the £1 million mark, with another year remaining on his Preston contract, and says he has spoken to his current club’s manager Phil Brown about moving on: “We had a meeting and he’s just put a price on my head and said if it gets met, all well and good, we won’t hold you back.

“We’ll have to wait and see now if a club is interested or what’s going to happen but I’m hopeful, yeah, because I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.

“I feel maybe the Championship or the Premiership at a push would be ideal for me. I think I’m a little bit better than League One if I’m being honest.”

Treacy played for the Belvedere club in his native Dublin as a youngster before joining Blackburn in 2005.

The 6ft-tall wideman’s senior debut followed a year later during a loan spell with Stockport County in League Two, which was followed by a further temporary switch to Sheffield United in 2009.

Having made only 10 starts and 12 sub appearances for Blackburn, Treacy joined Preston for an undisclosed fee on February 1st 2010.

Described as a pacy and tricky winger, Treacy forced his way into the North End side during his first half-season at Deepdale and has been a regular this term, scoring nine goals in 36 starts and five games from the bench. He was subbed in the first half of Town’s final day victory over Preston having been clattered by Troy Brown early on.

The Dubliner has also now added three senior Irish appearances to his four caps and one goal at U21 level and is likely to be in the side which takes on Scotland in the final Carling Nations Cup match in Dublin on Sunday (6pm Sky Sports One/HD1). Blues defender Damien Delaney and former loanee Darren O’Dea are also likely to be involved.

Meanwhile, another winger interesting the Blues, Dundee United’s right-sided man Craig Conway, is reported to have turned down the offer of a contract at Rangers.

Conway, whose terms with the Terrors are up this summer, is said to have spoken to the Blues, Crystal Palace and Watford with the Eagles believed to be the frontrunners for his signature.

I predict that in another two weeks at this rate, we will have shown interest or pursued just about every player outside the top half of the Premier League! For one I would now much rather see news of new players on here only when they have actually signed on the dotted line.

So, that should make for a very quiet summer!!

The first story of a signing that might actually come off. The price is reasonable, the club want to sell... though we dont really need a left sided midfielder as badly as we need a striker and CB.

My, we did we have a bad night last night didn't we. I'd sooner read links than have silence, its all part of the build up chaps, same as every year. As long as we eventually acquire who we want and need, just sit back and enjoy what must be extremely hard work for P.J. Imagine having to pretend you're not fussed about a player, so you can keep the price down and keep within a budget, when all you want to do is just say yes to any dopey demand to secure a players services, then, multiply that by however many players you need, trying to keep impatient fans happy in the mean time ! The words, sod and that spring to mind ! IMHO.

Time will tell. But after this weekend i guess is when the fun starts when you get a lot of players out of contract ( well so i beleave). So hopefully we can pick up a player or 2 of decent quality without paying top doller. I appriciate that other clubs will be in for the same players as us but you have to be in there trying to tempt um. But Mr Evans has given his budgets to Mr Jewell and Mr Clegg on transfer fees , wages and anything else that goes along with the budget . Its all to easy to spend someone elses money and Mr Evans has a handy amount but we have all got to consider that Ipswich Town FC is his toy/ company and it is his money at the end of the day. If someone is spending a load of your money you'd want to know what your getting . So to be honest you cannot blame Mr Evans , Mr Clegg or Mr Jewell. I aslo appriciate that the player and his respective agent want the best deal aswell possible but we dont want to be bent over a barrel and butt plugged do we. I'm sure all parties are working hard behind those doors. So please everyone please stop slagging everyone else of and i'm sure the deals will get sorted as and when

We will of course be linked with many signings as we are known to be searching for players, but thats not a reason to be negative. We will sign some eventually and it is interesting to speculate. We do seem however to struggle when trying to sign good players and we must hope that Paul Jewel will be the X factor in changing that.

Dunno why we don't go for Gio he seems to be on the move from Spurs can play across the midfield or up front and when we was with us last time he was head and shoulders above anyone else in the division

We need to build a NEW team from scratch in my opinion, get shot of the dead wood, realistically we need a new: GK, 2 x CBs, 2 x FBs, 2 x CMs, 2 x CFs, i doubt we'll see 9 new faces, but thats what it will take to make us play off contenders.

Oh dear all these fans verbally abusing one another.Paul Jewell must find it frustrating with an absent Chairman and the CEO well!!!.
If a club bids for a player, the initial bid is invariably turned down;so are we persisting as in yesteryear,it appears not. Will see RK in pundits role shortly and we know what he thought of the Major.
Norwich are showing how negotiations should be done,a family club, with directors and Chief Executive fans, and local and always available not in the Caribean or south of France.
Mr Evans as owner of the club MUST get more involved and not rely on Clegg as it is imperative that several good new players are signed to prevent another year of struggle with the stock of ITFC continuing to fall in the eyes of the football world.

This would be a fantastic signing a young lad very talented proved that towards the end of the season and for 1 million defiantly worth a punt!
I also feel Kevin Philips might be worth ago free agent with plenty of experiance could help out the younger forwards Josh Carson and Connor Wickham.

Can't believe I'm reading that some people don't think we need strengthening for wingers. Martin and Edwards are our only natural out and out wide players who I have seen enough of to suggest can play on our wings. Being generous, I would describe Edwards as being inconsistent when he has played on the wing. But his fairly successful deployment as a full back has made him more valuable as a defensive outlet rather than an attacking one. Carson is an excellent prospect and needs time- he is 17, not much younger than Wickham I know, but difference being that Wickham has the build of a 25+ year old. Not convinced Carson can take the strains of a whole season yet. Plus he is a full back primarily, I'm sure PJ will be aware of this. Civelli has been mightily unlucky with injury setbacks, but I've not seen or heard anything to suggest he is can come into our team and worry an opposition.

Really rate this guy a lot. Better than League One? Absolutely yes. £1million for this guy would be good. We want to give opposition defences problems next season, and it doesn't get much tougher for a defence than a quick and tricky winger who can cross and score goals. Great shout!

Radiogaga. Great post, agree 100%. These are the type of players that we need to be attracting, not the mercenary big names being touted around.

hope we keep a good balance between getting value for money and not paying over the odds for average players,in recent years i hate to say our enemies up the road have put us to shame in the tranfer market, proving that there are players who dont cost crazy sums of money but are motivated to do the job, spend wisely town!

Stoofer, you are so right. We need team players with a good work ethic plus no little talent. These players are out there, just ask Lambert.

Where do Portsmouth get the money to sign St ledger?

Teams with ambition find the money.
Teams that are run of the mill dont.
There are NO miricales out there.
ITFC are run on business lines.
The ambition is muted, but keep up the hype for ticket sales.
