Icelandic Defender Latest Link

Released Reading defender Ivar Ingimarsson is the latest player to have been linked with a summer move to the Blues. The 33-year-old veteran was told he wouldn’t be offered new terms by the Royals last week after a hugely successful eight-year spell in Berkshire.

Capped 30 times by Iceland, Ingimarsson began his career in his home country with Valur and IBV before joining Torquay United on loan in October 1999.

A £200,000 switch to Brentford followed a month later, then in July 2002, having been linked with George Burley's Blues, the just over 6ft tall defender joined Wolves on a free transfer but made little impact at Molineux before moving on to Reading for £175,000 in October 2003.

Since then Ingimarsson, a close friend of former Blue Hermann Hreidarsson, has been an important figure at the Madejski Stadium, making 276 starts and five sub appearances, scoring 12 goals and also captaining the side. Injuries, however, limited his involvement to 13 starts and one appearance from the bench last season.

Town are certainly in the market for an experienced central defender due to Gareth McAuley leaving the club with Sunderland’s Nyron Nosworthy widely thought to be the number one target. The 30-year-old is believed to have been in talks with the Blues, Crystal Palace and coincidentally the Royals in recent weeks.

We understand Town have been continuing discussions with a number of players in recent days with one potential target shown around the club yesterday.

Tranmere sources continue to strongly tip 21-year-old left-back Aaron Cresswell with a move to the Blues with some forum posts claiming the player himself has said he will be definitely be joining Town.

Cresswell, who TWTD reported was on Town’s radar last month, is out of contract and has refused new terms at Prenton Park and as he is under 24 the League One side would be entitled to compensation. Southampton and a number of other unnamed Championship clubs have also been linked.

Elsewhere, we’re reliably informed that a tweeter claiming to be former Blue Kieron Dyer over the last few days is in fact a fake.

This guy has played midfield before (when at Wolves I think) so could also fill the holding midfielder position we're looking for. As for age, PJ said he wanted to bring some experienced players in for this season.

Just sign someone for Pete's sake. I am getting really disillusioned with this.

Yes, likely to just be the usual unfounded rumour but a good player and miles better than Nosworthy, Bruce (no please God no) and Bam Bam and debatably better than McCauley. What was our best Cb pairing ever - belive statistically it was Venus and Mowbray, neither of them youngsters when they came to us. So let's hope.

Really happy to be be linked to hungry lower league players too like Cresswell in positions where we need them (i.e. LB). Keep Connor, give O'Connor and Hyam a chance and bring in a new striker, midfielder and CB and we are away.

I would like to know which charlie keeps producing these links? Seems a lot of rubbish, I have no doubt PJ is hard at work trying to sign the players he wants. We dont know who they are and neither does the press. So its a waiting game for everyone. Though I must admit a frustrating one and every link doesnt help.
Ive seen some poor teams over the years and this current one is up there, not that the players are bad, but as a team not a lot of good. Hope things change for the better.

Can someone please forward this list to Clegg! i know some of them have now been offered new deals or been snapped up already but there are alot of solid players who are without a club next season.

Ah yes even more players linked...........Yesterday the rumours included Chopra, Nosworthy, Dyer, Cambell, Rhodes coming back and now we have a unwanted on the shelf 34 year old defender....If he was that good people surely Reading would have kept him for a couple of more years??
Just a though.

My mole who's on work experience at Poundland swears that he spotted Ryan Giggs in there yesterday afternoon with a woman that looked suspiciously like Simon Clegg's wife on his arm...

I thought it was Gunnarsson and not Ingimarsson that had signed the new 1 year deal at Reading?

The general negativity on this site is draining - I feel a big signing coming in the next couple of days

Solid and dependable. Something we haven't had since De Vos left.

I wish Ipswich would get there finger out and hurry up. If we miss out on Danny Green we've made a serious mistake.

Reading nearly made promotion and are looking towards automatic next season, so they off load this man as not good enough, And a lot of you believe he will be a good addition?
Clearly he wont be wanted by a club looking for promotion next season.

calm, cool and collected -- if he can steer clear of injuries then his experience could be vital
