Ellington Delighted to Be Reunited With Jewell
Ellington Delighted to Be Reunited With Jewell
Tuesday, 21st Jun 2011 16:22

New Town signing Nathan Ellington said he was delighted to be reunited with his former Wigan and Derby boss Paul Jewell after signing a two-year deal with the Blues earlier today. The 29-year-old says the Liverpudlian is the manager who has got the best out of him throughout his career.

Speaking at a Portman Road press conference this afternoon, Ellington said: “I’m very happy to be joining Paul Jewell again.

“He’s excited at the job he has here at Ipswich and what lies in store for the club. He sold me on that and I am very happy to be joining a big club like Ipswich.

“When you play for a club you have to have a manager who believes in you and I think he’s believed in me the most over my career, and that’s produced good football for me and winning football for him. It’s a recipe for success really.”

The Bradford-born striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston, says he hopes Jewell will replicate the job he did with the Latics: “I think he built a great squad at Wigan. Not only were they great on the field but we had a togetherness like nowhere else I’ve ever been.

“I know he knows all the components that you need to make a successful team, obviously he managed that at Wigan and he was trying to recreate that at Derby, but obviously things didn’t work out exactly how he wanted.

“I have a lot of faith in him as a manager and he has a lot of faith in me as a player and he knows how to bring out the best in me. I’m happy to be working with a manager like that again and getting back to what I know I can do.”

Chief executive Simon Clegg added: “We’re delighted that Nathan’s with us and will be with us for the next couple of seasons. He’s had an extensive career, has had a good goalscoring record in seasons gone by and has worked with the manager on a couple of occasions, both with Wigan Athletic and at Derby County on loan.

“He’s a good signing for the club, the third signing of the summer and we continue to be very excited and very upbeat in terms of what we can achieve with the squad going forward.”

Clegg refused to be drawn on any further possible signings, keeping to the club’s usual policy of not commenting on speculation, although he confirmed that Ellington won’t be the last player through the Portman Road doors this summer.

i'm just glad we are signing people after last seasons non eventful close season.on some posts people are judging nathan before he has kicked a ball for us.i thought we would have learnt not to prejudge after the keane era when many thought we were destine for the premiership before he started his attempt.and then we all had a good moan.i'd like our next move(wishfull thinking) to be for someone like sol cambell.i get the feeling mr jewell may have something of a transfer surprise up his sleeve for us....

Listening to him talk it sounds like he really wants to play for PJ again. Some managers just have a knack of getting the best out of certain players. Fingers crossed this happens. Working under PJ again should give him a spring in his step- couple of early goals and who knows !!
I have a good feeling about this signing, hope I am not wrong !!

Excellent signing - just the type of player we need in the squad to move us up to play-offs or better - Jewell is an excellent man-manager and I'm sure he will get the best again out of the Duke!!

The fantasy football managers are out again!!

PJ has brought 3 players in who are better than we have and has spent only £1.5M. At last we have a proper manager who can attract decent players who will play for him.

Have a feeling that he will be a dark horse for us and will score 10-15 goals next season and Chops 15+. Dynamics of the team have changed straight away.

Can remember him playing for Wigan with Roberts and was a power house and can also remember him coming on for Watford 2 seasons ago. The sort of striker we haven't seen at PR.

With 3 in I can see at least another 3 coming in with Pearce or St Ledger, Creswell, Treacy, a GK and a creative midfielder.

In Jewell we trust. A different Town team will be seen next season thats for sure.

Still can't believe some of the negativity on here at the beginning of PJ's first full season.

Willing to give him a chance but have to say doesn't seem like a great signing. A bit too similar ro Scotland for me in that he isn't very mobile or quick. Hopefully Jewell can get the best from him, but Im sure Derby fans said that when he went on loan there a few years back.

think this signing will turn to be 1 of 2 things. a new kuki and an absolute star as he is back with jewell or another Adrian Paz and a complete flop. Ellington in my opinion either ticks or flops .. i hope it's the first. Welcome nathan come on bang in those goals....

And just for the record i would let Scotland go and keep Priskin. I think tamas is a more than capable 4th striker at this level. I would send murrey out on loan to get some more experience..

Welcome to ITFC Nathan.

Considering that we need several new players this summer it's totally unrealistic for us to be spending 2 million plus on everyone of them coming in. We need to build a team with a mix of players who will be the first ones on the team sheet, such as Chopra, and others who will mean that we have a strong squad.

We also need some experience in the team and players who can contribute to a good spirit in the squad. It's good that Ellington has many positive things to say about PJ and I think that we should all be pleased about this and back the manager and the players whoever appears in a town shirt.

I'm looking forward to next season and a glass half full atitude accompanied by some passionate support from the crowd will only help the team.

As has been said almost all of the teams in the Championship have played in the Premiership and most of the fans of those clubs think that they should be back there. We have no devine right to be in the top flight and should not be endlessly nitpicking as fans who at times seem to be unhappy with everythig that happens. Whilst the extreme example that's been posted saying that people would even complain if we signed Messi by saying that he's too short is a good analogy of the attitude shown by some.

Why don't we all just try welcoming Ellington and do our best to look forward to next season. It won't be an easy league by any means and we won't win every game but whatever happens I'll always support ITFC forever.

COYB!

Having had a look through all of the comments I cannot believe that some of them are from ITFC Supporters. It seems that no matter what the Club do they are not happy. I bet that some of the moaners don't even go to PR to watch the football. Things have not been that good but we are coming up to a new season and getting new players in, so give everyone at the Club a chance to show what they can do.

I feel sure that the moaners do not know the meaning of the word 'Supporter'. It is not a question of having a season ticket for 20 years +. You have to make an effort as well and get behind your team.

I've been a supporter of the Blues for over 40 years and a season ticket holder for at least 25 years and no matter how bad it gets I still get behind the team. It's about time some of you did. COYB

IMO I think we have three good signings with more on the way.

Welcome to our club Mr Ellington. Ignore the negative comments from the doom merchants amongst us, give us 100% every time you put on the blue shirt & go get us goals. Potentially a good signing PJ. As for all of you who slag him off, do you all perform to your maximum every day in your place of work?? No, i thought not!!!!

Hey what's the problem people? Free transfer for someone Watford paid nearly £3 million for a couple of years back (and they don't throw their money around). They are in disarray after losing their best manager in years and are probably run by bean counters wanting to reduce their wage bill. Preston aparently wanted to keep him. This COULD be a really good and astute move by PJ. I think he has something to prove and so does PJ after Derby. If anyone is going to get the best out of him PJ will. I am feeling positive about this and welcome the 'Duke' to Portman Road. More signings to come before we can really see how the team is going to shape up. Plus it also depends if Connor is going to be here (which I hope he is). If not we will have more money to help strengthen the squad. So let's be positive and get behind the team ready for next season. COYB!!!!
