Preston Boss Hopes to Keep Treacy Friday, 24th Jun 2011 10:24
Preston North End boss Phil Brown says he hopes to keep Town target Keith Treacy at Deepdale, despite his club’s relegation to League One. The Lilywhites manager says they are yet to receive a concrete bid for the 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international.
Brown, who expects Treacy to eventually return to the Premier League where he made fleeting appearances for Blackburn, said: “There’s been no firm offers for him. But I have had interest from four clubs — one of them a Premier League club, the other three being in the Championship.
“With that in mind, if we can manage to keep hold of Keith and our other better players, for me it is a firm indication from Preston North End that we mean business next season.
“But I also understand that finances can dictate things. If someone comes in and bids a ridiculous amount of money for Keith, the other side of the equation follows.”
Town, Nottingham Forest and Hull have all been linked with the Dubliner, while Burnley had been reported to have made an unsuccessful £800,000 bid earlier in the summer.
The Blues’ other Preston target, defender Sean St Ledger, is claimed to be the subject of a £750,000 offer from Leicester, although the Lilywhites, who turned down a £1.5 million bid from Town in January, are unlikely to accept a figure as low as that.
Elsewhere, Brighton are reported to have offered £250,000 to Crystal Palace for ex-Blues midfielder Owen Garvan, who joined the Eagles a year ago for the same fee.

Owen Garvan, there's a waste of space if ever there was one. Even Palace don't want him now

I remember all the promise with Owen Garvan, great shame. A joint bid [ if it came off ] would be good business, especially at 2 million.

I think SSL will go for close to £2m so a double bid at £2m would be a win win. although yet again we seem to be 'cooking our turkey' rather slowly !! (pun at Fulop move?) Still think we'll see at least 3 players in next 10 days . . SSL or not. COYB

There is something wrong with Ipswich's strategy in the transfer market. We are continually linked with promising players but aren't able to sign any. This must prove that we are targeting the wrong players. There is a level of player that would be only too happy to sign for Portman Road given the chance. The recent signings show we are scraping around the league for players that haven't impressed last season and who are only able to command fairly high wages. There is no guarantee these players are going to deliver a promotion push and even their previous clubs didn't want them. Ipswich need to rebuild next season and it needs to identify young talented footballers from the lower leagues with something to prove. And then we should keep our mouths shut until we sign them. We've suffered 5-6 seasons of "links" to this and that player and haven't signed any of them. Ipswich need to get real about their position in this league and get real about who they can actually sign. Other clubs manage, why are we fed such rubbish week- in, week- out?

johnhazelbum - Think your being a bit harsh mate, Chopra is hardly a rubbish signing and Ellington on his day can be a handful for any defence. I notice your a new member by the amount of comments you've made, Hope you have nothing to do with a certain Whoppit user name as he was pretty negative to...........

I didn't mean crazy like it would be bad if we bid for them. I'd be very, very happy to see them both here and in. I meant, will we actually do it? It seems that £2.5m would be too high so I dunno how much they'd want to hold out for. I don't think £2m would get them. Fingers crossed.

na, 2m is deffo not enough! dont think we'd be able to do it! im thinking theyd want over 3 and im not sure PJ would want to put such a high price tag on them!! He doesnt want to raise expectations too high!

Whoa, whats with the Garvan negativity, so he's subject to a 250,000 bid from brighton, whats wrong with that he's found his level good luck to him. 'what a waste of space' how rude!!!

I still like garvan.. still one of the best passers of the ball we seen at town for a few years probably since magilton first came to PR. I would be happy if both garvan & jorden rhodes returned to the club this summer i think they both could do a good job. doubt PJ will go in that direction however ...
