Winger Bid Turned Down
Winger Bid Turned Down
Thursday, 14th Jul 2011 21:30

Town boss Paul Jewell says the bid for a winger has been turned down and that he is still waiting to hear back regarding the offer made for a striker. The Blues manager says it’s not a shock to him that the initial bid for the wideman was rebuffed.

Jewell said: “We are trying to bring in a couple more, if not more than that, for the start of the season. One bid, for the winger, was rejected and the other one we’re waiting to hear from."

The Blues manager says that he’s not downhearted and that having offers turned down is just part of the process: “If we bid £3 million they’re going to knock it back, so you may as well bid low.

"Whatever you bid first always gets knocked back, so it was no great surprise that our bid was rejected."

Jewell will talk to the club’s owner before deciding whether to lodge another offer, with other players also in his thoughts: “I’ll discuss that with Marcus.”

but sometimes its worth putting a silly offer in because the parent club fall for it, like we did when huddersfield came after Rhodes, in there own words ," we only put a tongue in cheek offer in and couldnt believe it when ipswich accepted it".
Keane had no idea, PJ is much much wiser and so is clegg thanks to PJ. .... COYB

Blue041273 - spot on but you are wasting your time with some people who have no idea of business in football. I am glad Paul Jewell knows what he is doing and would suggest some on here think before they write.

God there are some idiots that post on here.

The first bid is to test the water - but also to let the player know we're after him

Heard someone mention Martyn Waghorn the other day from Leicester...think he'd be a good signing - in the same sort of mould as Wickham -big and strong..lost his way slightly at Leicester..maybe Jewell could get the best out of him like he did with Wickham in the 2nd half of last season?

Here we go, more nonsense from fans who think they know what they're talking about.
Bidding for a player is not as straightforward as he's worth £1m so why don't we bid that?
Players don't run about the pitch with a pre-set price tag around their necks, the prices are just media speculation.
There are several players determining a players worth, apart from 'how good he is'
you've also got to consider his age, contract status(has he got a year left, in which case a lower fee may be agreed to stop him leaving on a free when contarct is up), squad status at current club(if he's a regular he's going to command a higher fee than an out of favour player), financial status of his club(do they need to sell to balance the books, or would they only sell for a high price)
So taking all the variables into account you have to make a low-ish first offer, because you just never know..........

i do find the negativity and complete lack of football knowledge shown by some supporters quite amusing! same people everytime. Really dont see the point in coming on here and contributing with constant moans, if you love your team surely the best thing is to SUPPORT them??? or is that just me ???

quote of the day- "None of us would have to waste hours being sold this secondhand guff"

really?? some people should take there own advice

Strange that Chopra aside, they have all been knocked back, Sharp is a no no, we won't pay up and don't think he wants to come here anyway, Coppinger likewise.

We need to get our skates on because nearly all the other clubs have stolen a march on us already, must say I am unconvinced by the freebies but in reality that is probably the market we are in, we don't appear prepared to spend much.
