Ingimarsson Again Set to Miss Out
Ingimarsson Again Set to Miss Out
Friday, 22nd Jul 2011 14:11

New Town signing Ívar Ingimarsson is again set to be on the sidelines when the Blues take on Southend United in a friendly at Roots Hall this evening (KO 7.45pm). The Icelander, who joined on a free transfer from Reading this summer, has missed all Town’s pre-season games so far due to a thigh injury.

Boss Paul Jewell is taking essentially the same squad that played in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Cambridge to face the Shrimpers.

Speaking about Ingimarsson after the game at the Abbey Stadium, Jewell said the club are being careful with the 34-year-old: “He’s been doing some fitness work but we’re aware he’s got a thigh strain.

"It’s a difficult one because if we push him too much and he tears it, he’ll be out for a long time.”

He should be good for 15-20 games a season, it takes much, much longer to recover from injuries at his age, it was a calculated risk but he was free !

He's not really "set" to miss out though, is he. He's not preparing himself to miss the game. That would be silly. Don't over-egg it.

Just say "Ingimarsson to miss...", or, "Ingimarsson still injured...".

Sheesh.I'm sure he's keen to play.

Hope he is alright in the season.

And whoever said it only pre season it doesn't matter then they must be thinking this is a video game. As he will come here and fit in.

No this is real life he will need time to settle and get use to our style of play and pre season is a great time for that.

Stow

The Sonko call is a good one. He's built like a brick outhouse and has a shift of pace to go with it.

Re. Ivar the engine...... oh well let's see if he can get into a game next week before we panic too much. If all else fails I saw Warky going about the town the other day. He still looked as though he could do a job and Russell is in the academy as well.

Don't think there's a need for panic, but those who aren't concerned are a little complacent. Potentially look to sign two CB's now!! When he's fit, one could have a crack a right back, so we don't have to rely on Edwards anymore.

Thanks for your efforts Carlos, Delayney and Smith haven't helped you out much!

Could do with some good news......peace out

Anyone who thinks we've signed an old injured crock needs to think for a while. Ok, he's currently injured, but that doesn't mean he's out for the season just collecting his wages. If he's fit for three quarters of the season he'll be classed as a bargain, because he is genuinely a good player at our level.
Now can anyone else remember us signing ageing centre backs who were prone to a few weeks on the sidelines? De Vos comes to mind, and he was pretty decent. Oh, and a certain Tony Mowbray, who was 32 when we signed him, and is now part of our folklore. Now I'm not pretending that Ingy will be as good as Mogga, but give the man a chance. I would imagine he has a niggle, which we don't need to risk before the opening game. Or according to naysayers, play him with his slight injury in pre-season, make it worse, then he will be out for a month, then we are stuck with Delaney and Smith, right at the beginning of the season.
But yes, another cb would be very nice.

Think we need two more Centre Backs and a right back before we can say we are covered in defence!

Players over 30 are only really any use at an existing club where they are well-established and 'fit' the team in a way that compensates for their lack of physical strength and fitness. You should never sign one as a new player. There must be an 'annullment' clause in his contract, surely?

You lot really are a bunch of morons. Yes, he's a terrible signing because he has picked up an injury in pre season and missed 3 games against a bunch of total dross. He hasn't even kicked a ball yet, would be interesting to see if Chopra would have taken so much flak if he picked up an injury before playing a game.

Idiots.

All those knocking Ingimarsson, please just cast your minds back to last season and ask yourselves how many games did GMac miss through injury. Was he an injury prone player?
Give the guy a chance before you pull the noose around his neck, as we have not seen what Ingimarsson can bring to the side yet.
All the pre-season games point to the fact we need a good understanding between the two centerbacks.
We all saw from last season how we missed the quality of his service when GMac was out - still can't believe they let him go!
We are down to bare bones when it comes to coverage, so still a position that needs to be strengthened Mr Jewell.

................ surprise, surprise - was there for all to expect who choose to, I'm afraid. Poor signing - expect more of the same.

......... bury your heads in the sand, as many of you do anyway, and pretend it isn't happening - fact is the whole Club is a mess.

h32. why dont you just bugger off bavk to carrow road with the rest of the idiots. he aint a bad signing just because he has a thigh strain. neither does that make him injury prone. the average recovery time for this type of injury is around 10 days to 2 weeks, which hes inside, to those saying he had loads of injury probs last season? rubbish, he had 1 bad injury that caused him to miss large part of season, then when he came back, they went on their long run of unbeaten games. so stop tlking rubbish, get off his back, & support him, & every other player in the blue & white of itfc
