Jewell Still Looking for Signings
Jewell Still Looking for Signings

Town boss Paul Jewell says yesterday’s sixth and seventh summer signings don’t mark the end of his search for additions to his squad. Having brought in keeper David Stockdale and striker or midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, the Blues manager says there are further deals in the pipeline.

Speaking after last night’s abandoned game at Colchester, Jewell said: “We are looking for a couple more players, no doubt about that.

“There are things that are ongoing and these things can take time and what we have done well is keep everything quiet. So, hopefully, we can continue to do that.”

Having signed so many players in such a relatively short space of time — seven of yesterday’s starters have joined since he took over as manager - the Liverpudlian says it may take a little while for his team to gel: “At the end of the day, I’ve said before, it’s a long season.

“I’ve been here six or seven months. It’s a big job, it’s not going to happen overnight and I’m sure people know that long-term success will come gradually.

“We can’t go from being one to the other in a short space of time, that’s very difficult to do. But in time we will get it right and that’s the most important thing.”

Striker Nathan Ellington missed last night’s game with a minor shoulder injury but Jewell says the former Wigan man should be back in action in “a couple of days”.

Meanwhile, reports in South Yorkshire claim Sheffield United have dropped striker Ched Evans's price to below £1.5 million in order to remove his £15,000-a-week wage bill from their books.

Blues boss Jewell recently denied making an offer for the Welshman but admitted he was "on the list", however a move for another frontman seems unlikely having added Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to the squad yesterday.

Elsewhere, midfielder Conor Hourihane is expected to play for Plymouth in their home friendly against Truro City this evening. Hourihane, who has a six-month contract with the Blues, is on trial and is looking to win a loan deal with the Pilgrims.

2 Centre backs and a class midfielder and we are in with a shout, but can see this happening till after the season has started, hope we have them in by the end of the transfer window.

Can see Bullard coming back on loan as i can see Hull letting him go if a team payed half his wage as something is better than nothing.

Looks like next season will be the one were we push for top spot, but you never know. starting to look forward to the new season now

It takes time to build a side. Its not just about getting the right players in but also establishing a system and developing understanding in the squad. I hope that fans don't get too unrealistic in their expectations, especially in the early part of the season. Jewell is doing a great job but he doesn't have a magic wand.

1. Bullard is NOT going to happen, so drop him from your minds.
2. Dyer is on WELL below the reported £80k per week.
3. Civelli is back in Argentina and is going through contract termination.
4. There WILL be more signings, probably before the start of the season.

There are more but I need credit card details ;)

Nyron Nosworthy is available at S'Land... he could be worth investigating... and what happened to the rumors about Adam Smith RB at Spurs on loan?

What about Danny shittu he could be worth a punt for a new cb. He has what it takes at championship level. A big powerful player is what u need in your defence. Maybe Nosworthy 2 ha ha!!

@London_Blue - if you're right and Civelli is going through contract termination discussions, then its a bit cr@p of him treating the club this way. He must have taken a fair wage packet from ITFC and not given much back. OK, he was homesick, had problems with injuries and getting himself back on track etc but you would have thought he'd want to pay the club back for giving him the support, rather than taking and then running. I'm sure we dont know the full story but the lad needs to get a grip if thats the case.

Is there a fitness coach yet?
PJ is going to need one for himself to keep this lot in order. They are NOT a bunch of choir boys are they?

JewellintheTown - I wouldn't lay the blame at Civelli's door, my understanding is that PJ was unlikely to play him and preferred to negotiate him out of the club rather than keep him playing in the reserves. It sounded to me as though the club felt very sorry for him as he had worked extremely hard to get fit, only to find that another change of manager had ruled him out of favour.

Civelli is finished, get rid, find a creative midfielder and a CB otherwise its another season in mid table, we had no midfield last season until Bullard came and still don't, this was a priority and I am very surprised Jewell has not got one, without it this season will be a struggle.

I agree, we definately need creativity in midfield. Although Leadbitter and Bowyer looked sharp and willing runners, there was nothing for Chopra to feed on. We also lacked cutting edge from the full backs getting forward, and if you have no creative midfield player, you need to be playing 3-5-2 with wing backs providing the amunition; tricky with so few decent CB's!!

What Reserve team?

OsborneOneNil added 10:42 - Jul 27
The massively obvious requirement for us right now is a creative midfield player.

Leadbitter is far too poor.
