Town Target Villa Defender
Town Target Villa Defender
Monday, 22nd Aug 2011 23:19

Town are reported to want to take Aston Villa centre-half Shane Lowry on loan. The 22-year-old is understood to be available with the Blues having watched him in reserves action tonight with a view to getting a deal done as soon as Tuesday.

Australian Lowry played the full 90 minutes of tonight’s second string game as Villa drew 0-0 at Blackburn.

Lowry, who is 6ft 1in tall, joined Villa from ECU Joondalup in his home town of Perth in 2005. His Irish parentage led to caps alongside former Blues Billy Clarke and Owen Garvan at U21 level having previously featured for the Republic's U17s.

The left-sided central defender or full-back, who was linked with Millwall earlier in the summer, has made three sub cup appearances for Villa but has so far played no league games for the Premiership club. Lowry spent time on loan at Plymouth Argyle and Leeds in 2009/10 and at Sheffield United last season, facing Town both for the Pilgrims and Blades.

Contracted to Villa until 2012, Lowry was named in the provisional Australia squad for the 2010 World Cup having switched international allegiance in 2009, but failed to make the final cut and is yet to win a full cap.

Give David Wright a call, he loves Town and only had good things to say about his old boss. Shouldn't have been released in the first place.

Hopefully we get this sorted ASAP. Also think it's worth a punt signing Sonko on a short term deal, pretty sure he played against us at Pompey away last season and dominated in the air. Can't be any worse than what we have!

Not to split hairs but Australia has an apx. population of 22millions which is only slightly higher than London and it's surrounding areas.

What has happened to the slovenian bloke. We need defenders who can actually defend. You tube footage was impressive and there are 3 positions clearly up for grabs.

ericgates- Parnaby, Koumas, Jacobsen and Mc Fadden sound good but not so sure about the rest. Suppose beggars can't be choosers though! Victorywillhappen, cheers for confirming it was Yeovil who let fans scout players. Think this could be a really good solution to scouting and as you say it keeps the fans involved too.
Josh McEachren on loan from Chelsea for energy in midfield? Or Craddock from Wolves in defence, I'm aware he's old but he could organise and get people in the right place. Also Greg Cunningham from Man City is a good, young defender with something to prove.
Further ideas?

This is hugely worrying. Faced with a defensive crisis of epic proportions I would have thought that all the stops would have been pulled out to bring in reinforcements, not just as stop gaps, but to actually strengthen the defensive options. With all due respect a loanee from the Premiership with no Premiership experience is unlikely to achieve this basic aim. As of now, with TS suspended, we have fewer defensive options than we did ahead of last Saturday's debacle. If PJ really has the support of the Board he should be given proper financial support to get in tried and trusted defenders on 2 - 3 year contracts. This is a situation that requires major surgery. The patient is dying; a sticking plaster is not the remedy.

I can still see Roy Keane laughing all the way to the bank, and thinking to himself did I do a bad job or not ???? I did not lose a game in August.
So we are all hoping Paul Jewell will not lose a game in September !!!
COYB do it this weekend against Leeds !!!!! if not it is going to a long fortnight before the next game..

Why are we not spending the money we got for Wickham? £1.5m on chops, £1.1 on JET so that £5.4m sitting there doing nothing.

Spend some money on defenders, not pointless loan deals, does not help the team long term

Brittaniaman..... in Keanes first season in charge with his new team he did not win a game until 31 st October 16 games into the season so Jewell is already doing better than that . Half the trouble we are in is due to Keanes signings being crap Murphy,Fulop,Leadbitter,Edwards,Delaney,Scotland,Priskin,Martin,Healy to name but a few who were signed for a lot of money and wages whilst getting rid of R Wright,D Wright,Bruce,Trotter,Garvan,Stead,Walters,Rhodes most of which would do a much better job than Keanes signings

The rebels in Libya are planning on capturing Gaddaffi as soon as possible and putting him somewhere he can do no harm......he can play as centre back for town!....probably a free transfer but the wages may be a stumbling block as he may insist on several camels and a few AK 47's!

I want what some of you guys are on if you're still positive at this stage...

Goodness, I thought it was only Christians who were meant to have 'blind faith'.

No evidence of change, no admission of how bad things are, no formal apology and recompense, no change in pricing structure, no change of management and yet STILL folk believe.

Maybe you ought to think about starting a new religion...

Sigh...

I think you will find Keane signed Kennedy , i also think you will find that Kennedy has only played half the games since his signing due to injury but after a couple of good appearances this season he is suddenly the messiah rather than best of a very bad bunch of signings or an over the hill sicknote like Inger and Bowyer are referred to ??

I know he's a striker, but Adam Le Fondre (Football leagues top scorer) wants away from Rotherham, now there is a player PJ should sign.

I would sign the young Slovenian up from Koper. Can't be as bad as the defenders we have at the minute. and the cost £500,000 euros or so...

Don't need to. I know Slovenian football rather well.
