Town Amongst Trio Targeting Dutch Defender
Town Amongst Trio Targeting Dutch Defender

Town, Southampton and Crystal Palace are all understood to have made loan enquiries to Celtic regarding Dutch central defender Jos Hooiveld. The 28-year-old seems certain to move to one of the three Championship sides on a six-month or season-long loan before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Hooiveld, who is 6ft 4in tall, started his career with Heerenveen, moving on loan to Zwolle between 2004 and 2006.

A year with Austrian side Kapfenberger followed, then a switch to Finnish side Intern Turku, where he spent two seasons.

In 2009 he joined Swedish side AIK, moving on to Celtic for £1.4 million in 2010. Having made only six starts and one sub appearance, the Zeijen-born left-sided defender joined FC Copenhagen on loan.

Despite playing 11 games, the Danish club decided against taking up an option to sign Hooiveld on a permanent basis.

"He's Dutch, Sign him!"

"Our History with Thijssen and Muhren should help us land this fella."

Not convinced by this player. He hasn't played in the Scottish Prem, which these days can be compared to League One/Two, he didn't convince on-loan at FC Copenhagen, where he only played 7 matches in the Danish League, and seems only to have played properly for a Finnish side...

We got to do better than this...

If we do want him, Ipswich is the best place for him to be. Pop on the ferry at Felixstowe and he's home!!

daniel9624 How can you say Danish is not up there. FC Copenhagen where he played on loan last season was in the last 16 of the Champions league. Drew at home to Barcelona and lost 2-1 in Spain. Agree with the rest but do not think you should put danish football in a negative light.
I am very postive that Town will have a fantastic season and will finish in top half and in with a change of getting into top 6.

@chrisjant. My point being is that the defensive game does not alter as much as a midfield or a forwards game around the world. At 6 '4' he should win the arial battles just hope he has a good first touch, timing and distribution.

Like I said yesterday,I hope we're not going to bring in too many loanees..I think we operate better as a team when we've got a good 11 together..if PJ starts tinkering too much every game ala Magilton's final season then we'll end up going nowhere fast.

My mates a west brom fan, says ibanez is the best centre back they've had for years. Can't understand why he's not playing. So I hope we get him. Could be a loan with a view to a permanent!?

He was pretty dominant when he played in Sweden where he was the contributing factor to his former club AIK won the double.

Could it also be that FC Copenhagen were unable to match the salary...or that he did not want to leave Celtic for Danish football?

I know him!!!
He used to live on the same street as I do back home in the Netherlands!!!
Only joking.........
But I do think you'll find that the Dutch speak very good English and will certainly not mix up the words Mine! and Yours!, and I can definantly say I know this better than you lot do!!!!!!
I think he could be a very good signing, and I want to beat Southscrampton to his signature as a revenge for te 5-2 game!!!

I always used to think we should buy dutch,Pim changed my view on that tho ! We are at the begging and not choosing stage now,id quite happily welcome a 6ft 8 American basketball player into our defence! (tongue in cheek needless comment i know).Im with jas 0999 on the loan subject, they never quite feel like "our" players tho Bullard proves that a successful loan can lead to a permenant deal. Faith in pj.

I gather that the Dutch midfielder Hertz Van Rental was seen on the A11 late this afternoon.
